JJ Abrams’ ‘The Great Beyond,’ His First Film Since ‘Star Wars IX,’ Opens This November in IMAX

JJ Abrams is back in the director’s chair for the first time in seven years since the release of 2019’s “Star Wars Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker,” and Warner Bros. today announced a release date for what will be his latest original idea.

The film is officially called “The Great Beyond,” and Warner Bros. will release it in IMAX on November 13, 2026, the studio announced today.

Abrams wrote and directed “The Great Beyond” (at one point thought to be titled “Ghost Writer”), and it stars Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever, and Samuel L. Jackson. Plot details are still being kept under wraps. Abrams also produced the film with Tommy Gormley.

“The Great Beyond” opens a week after Warner Bros.’ “The Cat in the Hat” animated film, and it opens one week before “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.” Paramount on the same day

Netflix to Keep Warner Bros. Movies in Theaters for 45-Day Window, Says Ted Sarandos: ‘I Want to Win the Box Office’

Ted Sarandos keeps insisting that Netflix has come to make money from Warner Bros.’ theatrical movie business — not to bury it.

Sarandos, co-ceo of Netflix, reiterated in an interview with the New York Times published Friday the company’s stance that should it close the megadeal with Warner Bros. Discovery to buy WB’s studios and streaming businesses, it will continue to release the studio’s films theatrically. And, specifically, he said that Netflix would keep a 45-day window for theatrical runs of Warner Bros. movies.

“When this deal closes, we will own a theatrical distribution engine that is phenomenal and produces billions of dollars of theatrical revenue that we don’t want to put at risk. We will run that business largely like it is today, with 45-day windows,” Sarandos said. “I’m giving you a hard number. If we’re going to be in the theatrical business, and we are,

Box Office: ‘28 Years Later: Bone Temple’ Makes $2.1 Million in Previews

It’s time to go back to zombie-infested Britain with “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” the sequel to last summer’s post-apocalyptic hit.

“The Bone Temple” has made $2.1 million in previews at the box office. It’s projected to make $20 million to $22 million in the extra-long Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. In comparison, the first “28 Years Later,” which reinvigorated the Sony horror series, made $5.8 million in previews over the traditional three-day weekend last June. That film debuted to $30 million and ended its run with a solid $70 million in North America and $150 million globally against a $60 million budget. The “Bone Temple” sequel has a slightly higher price tag of $63 million.

Lucasfilm Replacing Kathleen Kennedy With Dave Filoni, Lynwen Brennan as New ‘Star Wars’ Bosses

Kathleen Kennedy will end her 14-year run at Lucasfilm. She will be replaced by not one, but two executives when she leaves the Walt Disney Company this year. Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni and President and General Manager Lynwen Brennan will both lead the company behind “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” as it looks to recapture its stride. Filoni’s elevation had been widely expected, but Brennan’s promotion is something of a surprise. It suggests that Disney felt the need to pair a strong filmmaking force with someone with a firm sense of budgets and balance sheets.

Filoni has been named president and chief creative officer, Lucasfilm, and Brennan has been named co-president. Their task will be to find ways to keep “Star Wars” fresh and relevant, as well as to deal with a fanbase that can be very vocal when it feels that a film or series is

Paramount+ has greenlit the true crime series “Fear Not” with Anne Hathaway attached to star, Variety has learned.

The limited series is based on the Vanity Fair article “True Crime, True Faith: The Serial Killer and the Texas Mom Who Stopped Him.” written by Julie MIller. Bash Doran is writing the series adaptation. The official logline states:
