IN CHARACTER
Name: Blue Sargent
Canon: The Raven Cycle
Canon Point: Beginning of Blue Lily, Lily Blue (Book 3)
Age: 17
History: On the wiki
Personality:
Blue Sargent is often described as a "very sensible" girl. This is more often than not mentioned in a sarcastic and/or ironic way, but for all the sass it gets the truth is that indeed, very sensible. Blue's the kind of person that thinks things over rather than letting them take her by surprise and overwhelm her, which gives her an advantage when it comes to analyzing and inspecting new situations. It plays in her favor when she needs to act upon little to no information or when put in situations where she has no skills to get by, but at the same time it also means that she's prone to overthinking situations she's not familiar and/or completely comfortable with, which renders her into inaction where she should react quickly, or stresses her to the point she prefers to completely ignore the issue at hand regardless of the potential fallout that might come from it. More often than not though, Blue is a young woman of action, for better of for worse. The times she's honestly shocked to the point of going all deer-caught-on-headlights mode are few, and even then she's not one to let a mistake go unsolved.
Raised by a cadre of honest-to-god psychics has made Blue largely immune to many things that would surprise or confuse her peers, giving her an edge when it comes to dealing with the unexplained (which she's forced to do plenty and often during the books) and come on top, maybe not with an explanation but at least with the acceptance that some things just don't make sense to her. This also makes her not only largely tolerant to most things that don't conform with her point of view (although she might still sass and complain her way around it), but also makes her easily accepting of others. Holding to prejudices feels like both a waste of time and an insult to her intellect.
In more ways than one, Blue's attitudes invite to think of her as a "strong, independent woman", although there is a finer balance to her that goes beyond making her a cliche of what a "strong female character" should be. She's strong willed and moody, perfectly capable of doing her own things and dealing with her own problems, to the point she has a hard time admitting she can't handle everything at times. Blue does have the sense to know where her skills end though, and even if she's slow to admit it out loud she doesn't trick herself into thinking she can do everything. Having been raised far more liberally than many children, Blue is a lot more direct and assertive in the way she deals with things, and she has little patience for ineptitude and dillydallying, which makes her look intimating at times. She's noted to be fairly fierce for someone so small, her presence far more noticeable than her height.
Being raised with the very specific notion that kissing the love of her life will kill them him has made Blue both desensitized and overly sensitive to the subject, contradictory enough. She doesn't think about it too much, but guards herself when it comes to interacting with people that might potentially express interest in her, more to their benefit than hers, but the moment someone manages to sneak past her defenses and make her doubt on her conviction to go about life without falling in love it becomes an everpresent pain in Blue's neck. It's a struggle, and therefore one of the things that Blue tends to bury deep inside of her so she doesn't have to think about it, but it always tends to come back up to the surface now and then. All around, it doesn't affect the way she treats others, although Blue herself admits at one point that before the Raven Boys she never really connected, never really belonged. This is partly because she's effectively pushing people away whenever they get too close; her connection with the raven boys is also something that apparently goes beyond their control though, and therefore it feels natural for her to be among them.
Contracts: Blue's only reason to sign is that the chance of going back home comes from it, but she won't even pretend to recognize their authority. She will eventually take her role in the ship seriously, if only because doing nothing all day doesn't suit her at all, but her feelings regarding her situation are likely to remain firmly in the area of "totally upset about it". That said, Blue is a sensible girl and will follow orders when they make sense and when it benefits her and others, so while she definitely give whoever's on a position of power a piece of her mind she won't be outright rebelling against them.
Abilities/Skills:
Blue is a completely normal human girl if you don't count the fact that she makes others stronger. If a name was to be given to this ability it would be that of Power Amplification. Psychic, magical, doesn't matter the source; whenever Blue is around someone with abilities they will become stronger, sometimes overwhelmingly so. Direct skin to skin contact with someone with abilities will increase them even more. It's important to note that the degree of control over the abilities remains the same, so some people might find this bothersome or even dangerous.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
As mentioned, Blue is a vanilla human being in every other sense of the word, or she's to be treated as such until I find something in the books that says otherwise, since I haven't finished the 3rd and final books.
Also important to mention that beings that feed from energy find her particularly enticing, and so Blue might be a magnet for these sorts of beings that need to "leech" power to survive, like an specially bright bulb or strong battery. This of course tires her and drains her of energy and might result in her passing out if it's prolonged for too long.

[ The video starts with a random shot of a wall before it pans out and focuses on Blue, all too close and blurry for a moment before she manages to set it right. ]
Okay, okay. I think this is working. Never had something this technologically advanced. [ The most were the boy's cellphones, and even then, Blue didn't have the need to use those constantly. But she's a teenager and totally capable of adapting, so there. ]
Anyway, I'm pretty sure this is recording now. Hi, my name's Blue, anything you could comment about it has been said ad nauseum, so don't even bother. [ She flicks a smile at the camera, wicked and confident. Girl didn't come all this far to feel insecure about her name. ]
And we're in... space. Yeah, still trying to wrap my head around that one. I'm guessing some of you are not as totally lost as me, but it would be nice to know that some other people here are as... technologically impaired as I am? Also I've been told that I have to work the gardens and ha, that's gonna be something.
[ She's literally five foot and change, so unless it's something beyond watering flowers it's going to be a real chore. ]
By the way, apparently we're going to some planet that might have answers, right? Has anyone actually been there before? Like, how certain are we that this is good for us? Because I would be very upset if I find out I've been busting my ass just to someone can travel half the universe to some planet for their vacations.
[ She knows they really have no chance either way, but it would be nice to get some confirmation. She also knows she's really not busting her ass at all, but shh. ]
Anyway, that was that. Nice to meet you, let's try not to die in space, okay? Okay.
