I've had this bass line in my head for about two weeks now, so I finally sat down in GarageBand and wrote it out. After that I penned a pretty fun drum beat to go with it. Then I couldn't stop, so I wandered through GB's built-in loops and threw down some on top. Check it out: http://www.gearblock.com/music/drumbass110.mp3That was a lot of fun, I should do that more often. |

I randomly decided to stop by and say hi. I might even start writing here again, though that's up in the air. Hope things are going well with all of you. Current Mood: complacent

Somehow, I'm strangely over-excited about this fact. You know what, I haven't gotten a chance to gush in a while. It's Singles Awareness day, and suddenly I discover a new friend. You've just made my day, sammee42. Current Mood: excited

I've stumbled onto a huge cache of icons from an anime I've been watching. 10 points if you tell me which anime it is (I'm guessing only summersdreamer will know). I have a confession to make ... I opened a myspace account recently. It seems that all my friends from work have made accounts in the last month. While I'm not one to bow to trends, I realized I would be left behind after someone posted something last week and I didn't hear about it until Sunday. I didn't want to be the only screwball left out of the loop. So now I'm faced with several choices. I've got a lot of posting history here (gosh it's been 15 months) and I'm not so inclined to pull up stakes and move. Either I start x-posting everything I write (hassle, no thanks), or I just link 'em all. Or, I could keep things separate for a while and see how it goes. Now that I think about it, I'll just keep them separate and worry about it later. No sense getting all worked up about it. So I was up until 1:30 last night wandering around my house looking for that sack. Both my parents were conked out asleep, so I had to be real quiet as I moved around. Heh heh, me, move quietly, that's funny. Anyways, no sign of el busca. At this point, I'm just going to have to write them off. They're dead to me officially. Since this revelation, I've discovered a few more CDs from my CD wallet that are misplaced. This is Not Good folks. It's official: I've lost several CDs that I really liked. Poof. Gone. I know I owned each one of them because they're all in iTunes. I remember playing them on my car stereo. I remember gathering them into a sack in my car when I was last cleaning it out. Now I can't locate that sack. How frustrating. I went to a Monte Montgomery concert on Friday. He is without a doubt a guitar virtuoso. What makes his story even more interesting is that he uses an acoustic almost exclusively. He gets the craziest tones out of that thing, I don't know how on earth he does it. It was a great show, I picked up a DVD of his and a cd from the guy before (Andy Timmons of Danger Danger fame). The concert was spectacular, and once again, I am reminded why music is so cool. I should start playing my bass again. It's too late to keep looking for that damn sack, but I almost can't go to sleep knowing it's still out in the world somewhere, unfound & all alone. If you can hear me, sack, I'm coming for you! Maybe no one else besides me cares, but I think this stat is amazing:
[Infamous-Tim:~] tim% uptime 1:06 up 150 days, 5:52, 2 users, load averages: 0.52 0.35 0.31
That's nearly 5 months without a reboot. Doin' a good job, Apple!

| » Civ 3, Overtime, Steve Jobs |
I've discovered the big problem with Civilization 3: It takes way too long to win the game. A normal RTS game can be finished in one sitting (perhaps a long sitting), but a single game of Civ 3 takes around 40-50 hours or more. I kid you not, there's really no way to play it quickly without losing. I'd decided to take the difficulty meter up a notch every time I won or lost on a civilization. But I didn't expect it to take so dadgum long to finish one. I'm still working on my second one, and we just recently entered the industrial age. I'm building things like battleships circa 1950, and I've got to get all the way to the space shuttle. Phew, it's long, but boy is it fun. And realistic. If you go to war against other civilizations, they won't trust you and will refuse to trade with you. In order to win back their trust, you've got to just give them something, or make a ridiculously good trade in their favor. I fear what will happen on harder difficulties ...
So up at work I've been going like mad these past two weeks. Another gentleman and I are heading up a project to scan 800 rolls of microfilm into digital format. We just finished doing research and made the presentation to the bosses today, and the decision from on high will come down tomorrow by lunch. Hopefully all the extra work I'm doing will get me noticed. I suspect it will, my boss is pretty perceptive and he rewards hard work.
So I just read an article about Steve Jobs and Pixar. Apparently Disney is seriously considering a purchase of Pixar studios in an all-stock swap. Steve Jobs owns just over 50% of Pixar's stock, and if it all gets converted over to Disney stock, that would make him the biggest shareholder and potentially its new chairman. This move is absolutely brilliant if you ask me. Jobs is building himself a media distribution empire through Apple hardware and software. There's only one problem with it: you need content to distribute before you make any money. Jobs as Disney's chairman would give Apple all the media it could handle. Think of all the movies, cartoons, songs, and other stuff Disney owns, not to mention every single ABC show ever made. Disney also owns ESPN, A & E, Lifetime, E!, The History Channel, all Touchstone, Hollywood, Caravan, Mirimax, and Buena Vista films, and a smattering of radio stations. For a full list, check here, it's quite a long list. In short, Steve is trading Pixar's limited media collection for Disney's massive one, which he will then release to the public through Apple's hardware and software assets. Now is the time to buy Apple stock if you haven't already.
