happy birthday, Ruby!
July 4, 2012
We had an early birthday party for Ruby this year, on the fourth of July. It was a simple affair, but we had so much fun celebrating our sweet Ruby. I can’t believe she is already 2!
Ruby, we think you are pretty great. You are charming and funny, and boy, are you smart! You just love to read and read, and have most of your books pretty much memorized. At home, you love to read Fancy Nancy, Crafty Chloe, the Knuffle Bunny books, and the Llama Llama books. At grandma’s house you have a special collection of princess books – Snow White, Cinderella, and you have a special love for Peter Pan. I hope you always love to read.
You’ve always been Grandpa’s girl … and still are … but you’ve also become Holly’s girl through and through. Holly is always a willing reading companion and packs her purse especially for you for Sacrament meeting. You are a lucky girl to have such an amazing aunt just around the corner. I know you two will always be good friends.
Sweet as you are, Ruby, you sure love to push your brother’s buttons. You seem to think you are as big as Oscar and can do all of the things he can do. And you are definitely catching up (between you and me, I think you might even have a bit of strength on him). But you LOVE to torment him! It is funny and irritating at the same time. I hope this year the two of you become even better friends.
You are a total snuggle hog and always want a spot on mama’s lap. You’ve even been known to push baby Cora down to secure your spot. Ruby hugs are the best hugs, because you give them enthusiastically and liberally.
Ruby, you have a hair fetish. It has gotten serious. You always want to run your fingers through someone’s hair, and you don’t really care whose it is – friends, family, I’m sure you would touch a stranger’s hair if you were tall enough. If you are sitting within a good reach of someone’s head, you often instruct them to turn around so you can “touch the back.” You like to have your own hair styled, and usually request pig tails, and twirl your hair in your sleep.
Speaking of things you do in your sleep, I beg of you to stop sucking on your bottom lip. You have given yourself a terrible overbite and are sure to cost us a fortune in orthodontist bills later in life. We love you anyway, buck teeth and all.
Ruby, our sweet girl, our jewel – you are special to us! We are so glad to have you in our family.
love,
mama

nature week
June 15, 2012
Summer Adventure camp continued with a Nature Week! We enjoying hiking, indoor camping in cool tents that Sonja’s husband made, having a backyard weenie roast, releasing a big tub of ladybugs into Sonja’s garden, making a father’s day planter, and printing t-shirts with leaves. It was a lot of fun, and we are definitely going to do adventure camp again next summer.
castle week
June 8, 2012
I signed up for an at-home summer camp program, and the first week of June was Castle week. We painted cardboard castles,
Made shields and swords (and I threw in a few knight helmets),
and ended with a medieval feast. It was a lot of fun, especially since we had friends to join us.
