6/30/2025: eIRB Announcement

The WSU Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), in partnership with the Office of Research/Office of Research Support and Operations (OR/ORSO), has implemented an online protocol submission and review system (eIRB) in the MyResearch database.

Effective August 1, 2025, all NEW IRB applications (including Exempt, Non-Exempt and Not Human Subjects Research) will be accepted ONLY via the MyResearch online portal, eIRB. Please ensure you review the eirb Submission Guide webpage or download the eIRB Quick Start Guide prior to beginning a new application via the eIRB system.

For new projects that have not been approved/certified exempt:

• Use the eIRB system on MyResearch for all new project submissions, including Exempt, Non-Exempt, and Not Human Subject Research determinations effective August 1.
• Prior to August 1, new non-exempt projects may be submitted using either the forms-based submissions process or the electronic portal.
• New projects currently under review using the Word/.pdf document forms do not need to be resubmitted in the portal, the review process will be completed under the old process.

For approved projects using the current forms submission system:

• Continuing reviews, amendments and event reports for existing projects can continue to be submitted to irb@wsu.edu using forms until October 2026.
• After October 2026, all applications must transition to the online portal.
• Optionally, PIs may choose to transition approved protocols to the online portal when submitting amendments or continuing reviews of their currently approved projects by submitting them as new applications in the electronic system. When doing so you must reference your current IRB approval number when prompted by the system. You can access the system by logging into WSU’s MyResearch database to begin your application. The Word/.pdf forms-based submission process will no longer be used for any new project after October 31, 2025. If IRB paperwork is submitted via email after this date, it will be returned with a reminder to use the electronic system.

While the eIRB system has been designed to be self-guided, new users may have questions. During the transition to the eIRB system, researchers can visit our Bookings page and schedule a virtual 30 minute “eIRB Submission Support” appointment. HRPP staff will be available to offer individualized assistance regarding eIRB submission issues by appointment only.

Expected Delayed Processing and Review Timelines

Please be advised that our office anticipates substantial delays in processing and review timelines to continue through the academic year. Rush reviews and rush processing requests are unable to be accommodated. As a reminder, all submissions and correspondence are processed in the order in which they are received.
