LJ Compromised?

Share Flag
me happy
I have an email account on my own server solely for this LiveJournal (but not published as my profile address, only LiveJournal sees it). It used the same password I used on this site. I am reasonably certain I have not used this email address and that password anywhere else, nor have I logged into LJ over insecure links (for at least two years).

The email account got broken into. I suspect the only way that could have happened was through a deep compromise of LJ as the password was not a real word. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough if that's the case.

Hey there

I kind of fell off the world for the last ten months.

As for LJ, I'm not going to pretend I'm back, although this time I was really gone and disconnected. I haven't gone anywhere else, although I have been trying to force myself to write some on my own site. I don't really intend that anyone's ever going to see it though.

I have moved since my last post where I was moving. This makes move four in two years. Even worse, I am now back in my previous location, which can only be described as a prelude to moving again. What have I got to show for the last ten months? Nothing. Aside from the moving, which is always a bad thing even if it results in good things later (and mine have not), it's pretty much been a wash. Time has passed and the arrangement of things has changed, but the net result is the same.

That's it for me. What's going on in your life?

Aside: I'm not on Facebook, but in the course of trying to understand it, I've come to realize nothing replaces LiveJournal. Facebook and friends aren't geared toward actual writing. Although I think of LJ as an original social network, I've discovered that when people talk about "Social Networks", they don't mean LJ. They mean things that are full of ADHD-sized factlets that can be mined and sold to advertisers.

Anniversary

change is in the wind
I note for the record, that I left Brooklyn one year ago today, after having been there about 3 years, 11 months, and 3 weeks.

Friday or Monday at the latest, I will move again.

My year in the wilderness is about to end for a decampment to a 1930's house with a porch on two sides, far from the main road. I think I will sleep well there, and the process of rising from the ashes can begin. There's more space than I can actually make any use of, as I no longer have the quantity of possessions required to fill an entire house, thank God. I expect I'm just going to leave the upstairs rooms empty, perhaps turn one into a guest room. I could turn one into an office as well, and while I think there's something healthy about separation of home and work, but lots of things have changed, and I think I'll probably just work out of the living room, as I did in Brooklyn. It's one less room to heat, and I can't see much point having an office when I'm just going to drag my notebook computer around the house anyway.

I have many tabs open in LJ that call out for replies. I will try to get to all of these this weekend. In the meantime, in the interests of establishing this is not an abandoned corner of LJ...

Bearing in mind I still haven't told the story of the last photo, I share this with you first, intrepid LiveJournalers...

What is this I see in West Sayville?

One of the last DeLorean dealers

I lived in West Sayville for seven years. I never put down any roots there though. It was only meant to be temporary. Port Jefferson, where I ended up staying eight years, was supposed to be temporary also. I would have said otherwise, but now that I'm back, I see I didn't really put down any roots here either. It's all very familiar though. It is still as though in some ways, I never left. The biggest change from my perspective has been to the supermarket, which seems altogether different than it used to be. I suspect however, it hasn't really changed all that much.

I am moving again. It will be my fourth location in a year (and a week). This move should again result in an improvement in my living situation and my income. It is two towns east of my current location however. I am now almost as far from Brooklyn as I have ever lived. This time, I need to keep "temporary" to two years or less. I don't want to put down roots out here, I intend to drag my friend out here to Brooklyn with me upon my return. That said, if I were wealthy, I wouldn't mind having a place "out in the country" in Port Jefferson Village. It's not likely to happen though, even if I came into money. The house I was living in before had sold for some insane amount of money, and I'd be surprised if it's lost much value in the recession/bubble-burst. The fond memory of Port Jefferson is really about Billy, which is to say that at this point any small old village in suburbia has about the same charm to me at this point. I think if I had the money, I'd be more likely to get an orchard upstate, beyond suburbia. Something with a porch, and where it gets dark enough at night you can see more than a handful of stars.

Off to Brooklyn for a visit with $10 in my pocket. I miss it so much. I just want my life back. It wasn't much, but it was mine.

In honor of Imagemidendian's visit, Imagetony_m, a.k.a. The Chancellor of the New York City Dept. of Immigration and Tourism, arranged dinner, and with myself and Imageteapath present, our local LUG was well represented.  I don't think Tony's convinced Adam to move here yet, but they're out in the woods now, and if they both come back, then presumably an understanding has been reached between the east coast and west coast families.

A guy on the subway just asked me what I'm taking in school. And then a lot of other stuff.

I jumped through the closing doors at the next station.

Did I mention he was creepy? (and wearing a "Special Forces" hat) If only this had been a hott and sane guy trying to flirt with me... ;)

(December 7, 2008) One year ago today, Billy had to leave.  It is an unspeakable thing, and nothing has been ok since.  He was my shadow for nearly 13 years.

I don't talk about my photos much here.  I don't talk about much here.  I don't talk much.  Anymore.  Which is a topic for another time.  Anyway, so many of you who read this have ubercameras that between my lack of talent and my point and shoot camera, I can't imagine too many people would find them interesting.

However, scattered in among the Twitteresque debris of my photos are a few recent items I wanted to share.  Please note that life behind them is much, much, smaller than it appears in the mirror.  Oh and forgive the lack of cut.

protest

We here in New York are sorry, California.  It looked to me like I saw well over 10,000 people at the protest outside the Mormon Temple, and Broadway was closed down as far as I could see.
