About Us

The Institute for the Study of the Americas, ISA, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge of the Latin American experience in the Western Hemisphere. It builds on a long-standing and distinguished tradition of scholarly interest in the diverse regions that make up Latin America, including Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Major offers a deep understanding of diverse cultures and an appreciation of a rich past and present of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Latino Migration Project provides research and educational expertise on Latin American immigration and integration issues including the Building Integrated Communities and the New Roots Oral History programs.
