Op vrijdag 6 februari 2026 gaat een nieuw gratis toegankelijk festival van start op het Westeinde in Den Haag. Vanaf 20.00 uur verschijnen er dagelijks filmprojecties door de hele straat, voor iedereen die nog laat buiten is. Sleepy Eyes Film Festival biedt onverwachte filmische ontmoetingen in de nachtelijke winterkou.

Van vrijdag 6 tot en met zaterdag 14 februari zal het Westeinde tot leven komen met filmprojecties die dagelijks vanaf 20.00 uur tot diep in de nacht verrassende visuele verhalen delen. Het Westeinde wordt tijdelijk getransformeerd tot walk-through-bioscoop. Winkelpuien, woningen en werkruimtes veranderen in filmschermen, waardoor historische gevels een nieuwe bestemming vinden. Eigentijdse videowerken van internationale kunstenaars worden zonder geluid, van binnen uit, geprojecteerd op de ramen en vensters van historische gevels. De films verwijzen direct of indirect naar de nacht, de stad, cinema en alles wat in de schaduw van de alledaagse werkelijkheid plaatsvindt. Tijdens Sleepy Eyes wordt de aandacht even omgeleid, de tijd bevroren, de blik vertraagd of juist versneld. De openbare ruimte wordt voor even een intieme plek voor eigen gedachten en persoonlijke ervaringen.

On Friday 6 February 2026, a new free festival will kick off on Westeinde in The Hague. From 8 p.m. onwards, film projections will appear throughout the street every day, for anyone who is still out late. Sleepy Eyes Film Festival offers unexpected cinematic encounters in the cold winter night, with …ism project space as its central location.

From Friday 6 to Saturday 14 February, Westeinde will come to life with film screenings that share surprising visual stories every day from 8 p.m. until late at night. Westeinde will be temporarily transformed into a walk-through cinema. Shop fronts, homes and workspaces will be turned into film screens, giving historic facades a new purpose. Contemporary video works by international artists will be projected silently from the inside onto the windows and facades of historic buildings. The films refer directly or indirectly to the night, the city, cinema and everything that takes place in the shadows of everyday reality. During Sleepy Eyes, attention is briefly diverted, time is frozen, and the gaze is slowed down or accelerated. For a moment, the public space becomes an intimate place for one’s own thoughts and personal experiences

In de tentoonstelling Time Framed Traces (the past is fast) herneemt Barney de Krijger (1943) projecten uit zijn lange internationale carrière als kunstenaar en curator. Ideeën die nooit eerder zijn uitgevoerd worden gecombineerd met documentatie en materialen uit zijn rijke archief, waardoor zij een nieuwe vorm krijgen.

Barney de Krijger werkt met analoge fotografische technieken die resulteren in installaties en projecten met een experimenteel karakter. Ook was hij initiatiefnemer van Het Archief, een van de eerste kunstenaarsinitiatieven, dat site-spefic installaties toonde in het voormalige Rijksarchief van het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken in Den Haag. Reden genoeg om Barney 30 jaar later uit te nodigen voor een solo bij …ism project space.

With Time Framed Traces (the past is fast), Barney de Krijger (1943) revisits projects from his long international career as an artist and curator. Ideas that have never been realised before are combined with documentation and materials from his rich archive, and are given new form.

Barney de Krijger works with analogue photographic techniques that result in installations and projects of an experimental nature. He was also the initiator of Het Archief, one of the first artists’ initiatives, which showed site-specific installations in the former National Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. All the more reason to invite Barney, 30 years later, for a solo exhibition at …ism project space.

Just Another Room is een totaalinstallatie in een transformatieve ruimte van …ism project space. Het is een verzameling van bekende vormen en onbekende objecten die zijn gerangschikt in een meeslepende, locatiespecifieke installatie die zich presenteert als een ruimte met een onbestemde functie. De ruimte is gepositioneerd als een uitbreiding van de huiselijke ruimte en bestaat uit geheimzinnige objecten die op onderdelen vertrouwdheid oproepen, maar in zijn geheel bestaat uit een spel met betekenissen, functies, absurditeit en (wan)orde.
Kan deze installatie ons diepgewortelde idee van wat een kamer in een huis is uitwissen?

Luka Smišek (Belgrado, 1996) werkt met speculatieve objecten en ruimtes door middel van intuïtief, ad hoc maken om normen, gewoonten en vooroordelen rond ruimte en het gebruik ervan te begrijpen. Luka is afgestudeerd aan de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag, waar hij nu woont en werkt.

Just Another Room is an unclear space located in the transformative room of …ism projectspace. It is a collection of familiar shapes and unknown objects arranged into an immersive, site-specific installation that presents itself as a room with an unclear function. Positioned as an extension of domestic space it consists of secretive objects that strike familiarity through their parts but not through their whole. A play of meanings and identity, of objects and sculptures, function and absurdity, mess and order.

Are our impulses to assign and compare correct or can this space erase the deeply rooted idea of what a room in a house is?

Luka Smišek (Belgrade, 1996) works with speculative objects and spaces through intuitive, ad hoc making in order to understand norms, habits and preconceived notions around space and its use. Luka graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague where he now lives and works.

In deze presentatie reageert kunstenaar Šimon Chovan (Slovakije, 1994) op de tijdelijke en transformatieve staat van de tentoonstellingsruimte bij …ism project space. Littoral Drifting verwijst naar sedimentbewegingen langs de Hollandse kust. Door hergebruik van een verzameling bakstenen die Chovan vond langs de oevers van IJmeer en Markermeer maakt Chovan nieuwe werken waarin echo’s van verlaten ideeën over landvorming en nooit gerealiseerde steden in doorsijpelen.

De presentatie bij ..ism bestaat uit reliëfs in gipsplaten die zijn gevonden in Amsterdam rond zijn atelier en in Den Haag rond de projectruimte. De tentoonstelling creëert een dialoog tussen het procesgerichte werk en het huidige transformatieve stadium van …ism na het verwijderen van de kenmerkende houten wanden en de daaronder aan getroffen lagen behang, stucwerk, tegels en andere sporen van het verleden.

Šimon Chovan (Banská Štiavnica, 1994) studeerde aan het Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam, KASK in Gent en de Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. Hij woont en werkt afwisselend in Amsterdam en Dekýš, Slowakije.

In this presentation, artist Šimon Chovan (Slovakia, 1994) responds to the temporary and transformative state of the exhibition space at …ism project space. Littoral Drifting refers to sediment movements along the Dutch coast. Repurposing a collection of bricks Chovan found along the shores of IJmeer and Markermeer, Chovan creates new works in which echoes of abandoned plans for land formation and never realised cities seep in.

The presentation at ..ism consists of reliefs in plasterboard found in Amsterdam around the studio and in The Hague around the project space. The exhibition creates a dialogue between the process-oriented work and the current transformative stage of …ism following the removal of the distinctive wooden walls and the layers of wallpaper, stucco, tiles and other traces of the past found underneath.

When the Sky Falls, Use It as a Blanket transformeert een voormalige biljartwinkel in een in-situ installatie, waarin interculturele elementen met elkaar worden verweven. Op basis van de overblijfselen van het gebouw en de transformaties die het momenteel ondergaat, vestigt kunstenaar Ellen Yiu (Hong Kong, 1997) de aandacht op kleine details en hercontextualiseert ze materialen, waarbij ze een brug slaat tussen het verleden en het heden om te onderzoeken hoe we hoop vinden in onzekerheid.

De titel van de tentoonstelling, een Chinees gezegde, herinnert ons eraan dat zelfs in de donkerste momenten, perspectief tegenspoed kan transformeren in mogelijkheden. Door fragmenten weer samen te voegen tot iets nieuws, reflecteert haar werk op genezing, overleven en de stille kracht die gevonden kan worden in over het hoofd geziene materialen. Het is een zachte en speelse herinnering dat schoonheid, hoop en vertrouwen kunnen voortkomen uit wat gebroken is.

When the Sky Falls, Use It as a Blanket, transforms a former billiard shop into a site-specific installation, intertwining cross-cultural elements. Drawing from the building’s remnants and the transformations it is currently undergoing, artist Ellen Yiu (Hong Kong, 1997) brings attention to small details and recontextualises materials, bridging past and present to explore how we find hope in uncertainty.

The exhibition’s title, a Chinese proverb, reminds us that even in the darkest moments, perspective can transform adversity into possibility. By reassembling fragments into something new, her work reflects on healing, survival and the quiet strength found in overlooked materials, offering a gentle and playful reminder that beauty, hope and trust can emerge from what is broken.
