You should make sure your game doesn't block features that belong to other programs or the operating system. Task Manager is an essential component of Windows and Linux to let the user close an application that's not responding or consuming too much CPU / RAM.

Altering the behavior of the quit function of your game can create the psychological effect you're looking for. As an example, in Red Balloon of Happiness there is a point when the normal quit is disabled so the player needs to use Task Manager.

I think my game Back From The Tavern fits your needs. It's a small game that mixes strategy with a bit of humor.

Take the time you need to recover. You can do some work on your game if it doesn't requires the use of your injured arm: for example doing some voice recording either for in-game use or to record your ideas in an audio file.

You're right. Even if the game has downloads for several platforms, some of the downloads can hold viruses. :-(

If you have an old PC that doesn't meet the hardware requirements of the new Windows, you can install Linux (Ubuntu or other) and test the games on it while being offline. You can also run Windows games inside Wine.

My favorite among the 3 last ones is your 2nd iteration.

Most viruses target Windows so a game that doesn't have a Linux download is more likely to be a virus.

The one with the back background is the best! I like the grid distortion around the big comet; it's the typical representation of space-time distortion around a massive object.

No engine: I code all my games in C and use the SDL2 library.

I would be an armsmaster, teaching the hero new techniques on medieval weapons. And I would also serve the king by designing siege machinery.

Games can leave music out when they focus on other aspects. The absence of music is a great way to create tension.
