Jacob T. Langager

RAPID CITY– Jacob T. Langager, 88, of Rapid City went to walk with the Lord on July 9, 2009. Jacob was born in Veblen, S.D., on May 18, 1921, to Sigvert and Elizabeth (Anderson) Langager. Jacob attended Veblen Country School and enlisted in the CCC in 1939 and battled the McVay Forest Fire. Jacob joined the U. S. Army in 1942 and served in Europe and the South Pacific. After the service he returned to Sisseton and married the love of his life, Marcella J. Bothum. Jacob worked for Larson Garage and later was employed at the Roberts County Highway Department. He was a volunteer firefighter and was on the Black Hawk Drill Team with the American Legion. Jacob and Marcella were proud parents of two sons, Gregory and Curtis Langager. In January 1962 they moved to Rapid City and Jacob went to work for Ellsworth Air Force Base with the civil service. He retired in January 1983. Jacob is survived by his loving wife, Marcella Langager, Rapid City; his twosons, Gregory Langager, Gurnee, Ill., and Curtis Langager and his wife, Kathy, Colorado Springs; five grandchildren, Ron (Cindy) Wilcox, Santa Ana, CA, Lori (Eric) St. Pierre, Kimberly (Mike) Tague, Justin(Kelly) Longager, all of Colorado Springs and Heather (Troy) Martens, Advance, N.C. Jacob is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachel, Jonathon, Delaney, Easton, Kyle, Hannah, Morgan, Riley, Christian, Braeden, Kary, Dawn, Alexis and Ezra; and many nieces and nephews. Jacob was preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers and a great-grandson, Hayden. Jacob was a wonderful husband, father and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Wilbur Holz officiating with lunch following. Burial, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the S.D. Army National Guard, will be at Black Hills National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. A memorial has been established to the donor's choice. His online guestbook is at www.osheimschmidt.com.

GURNEE, Ill. | Marcella Jean Langager, 93, formerly of Rapid City, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at her son’s residence in Gurnee, Illinois.

Marcella Jean Bothum was born April 21, 1924 at Sisseton, SD, to Martin “Mike” and Florence (Hagen) Bothum.

She attended school at Sisseton. This is where she met Jacob.

Marcella married Jacob Theodore Langager on November 25, 1947 at Sisseton, SD, after Jacob’s discharge from the United States Army.

They moved to Rapid City in January of 1962 when Jacob was employed with Ellsworth Air Force Base. Marcella worked at St. John’s Hospital and at Black Hills Retirement Nursing Home until her retirement in 1988.

Her husband, Jacob, died July 9, 2009.

She moved to Colorado Springs, CO, in September 2013 and to Gurnee, IL, in September 2014.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City.

Survivors include two sons: Gregory L. Langager of Gurnee, IL, and Curtis L. (Kathy) Langager of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jacob, on July 9, 2009, and one great-grandson, Hayden St. Pierre.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City, and services will be at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating.

Burial will be held at noon at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

Arrangements are with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
