Java Data Objects (JDO)
Dear Java_Dev Members
Have you heard about Java Data Objects (JDO)?
JDO is the new object persistence API for Java. It facilitates the transparent persistence of Java objects in data stores RDBMS, OODBMS, file systems, and others). With JDO you declare classes as being persistence-capable in a very simple XML descriptor, instead of writing specific persistence infrastructure code with JDBC or the like. Its announcement is expected at JavaONE in March.
It is widely expected that JDO will replace the usage of JDBC and SQL in client-server Java applications, whilst in n-tier 'enterprise' applications JDO will additionally replace Entity EJBs. Significant development time savings are anticipated as a result of this.
On Thursday 11th April 2002 I will be delivering a presentation about JDO over the web. I'm posting this email - with the list moderator's kind permission - to invite each of you to 'virtually' attend. Attendence is free, but you will need to register online in advance in order to receive the necessary connection details. Send email to info@OgilviePartners.com to ask about registration.
Ogilvie Partners is a vendor-independent consultancy, based in the UK, with a specific focus on Java Data Objects. Our website is packed with useful information and downloads. The JDO Overview, FAQ, Events and Vendor Links pages may be of particular interest.
Please visit us at http://www.OgilviePartners.com for further details.
Kind regards, Robin.
