Hi, JavaDev! I just joined LJ and this community. I'm from the Philippines, I work for an outsource company, and I'm the only Java programmer here. I just got moved to a new group, and I immediately told my new boss that I hope I never have to do VB work in his group.
I've only been a developer for seven months, using Java about two-thirds of the time, but I'm hoping to take the SCJP this year. I've voluteered to teach Java to the other programmers in the office, and I'm hoping the act of teaching will be good preparation for me for the exam.
I'm currently reading "Effective Java" by Bloch, and it's open right now on my desk. I occasionally switch to this online tutorial on RMI from the JDC. My last project was on XSLT, using dom4j.
Perhaps you can insinuate that I'm a little lonely java-wise, as I don't have any friends that are java programmers. There's a couple of JUG's in my city, one is just about to form and the other hasn't had any meetings since I've joined. Still, I'm looking forward to meeting fellow Java-people there soon. Java programmers are scarce in the Philippines, since it's very Microsoft-dominated here. Hoping to meet Java-lovers from other countries in this journal!
