Java support on macosx and linux with a G4
I need a laptop. My desk is not big enough to hold a book and a computer at the sametime. Also I want the desk available to do regular pen and paper homework.
I am an MIS major and will be working with alot of java software and excel spreadsheets. I am hurting on money so a new intel powerbook is not an option and it looks like Vista wont run on it anyway when its out because its 64-bit.
So I am contemplating about getting a used powerbook G4 from Ebay or maybe an IBM thinkpad if Windows is a requirement for my SQL programming course.
IS java5 supported on macosx? Also what about Java Enterprise edition? Is their Oracle client software as well? I do not intend to run it as a server but some courses may require psql development? JSF is new and is very similiar to Php from what I am told. I want to experiment with it and I am also wondering if MacOSX support is good on it?
Also I think linux maybe a requirement for my unix course. IS java support and 3d support work well with the powerpc port of Linux?
So I am in debate whether to get a crappy x86 system or a powerbook G4 based on my needs and want some advice?
Thanks
