Disable tooltips?

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is any way in Swing to allow the user to disable tooltips (if, for instance, they find they make the UI hopelessly sluggish and often don't work right anyway) - without having to set each individual component not to use them? Given the problems I'm seeing, I have to wonder if I'd be better off removing them altogether, but I'd much rather give the users that option, since they work fine on a lot of machines...

I've tried looking around for an answer to this, to no avail.
