Anyone know of a good way to do this?

Basically I want to be able to click on one of the pictures on the left and then click a spot on the grid on the right and have it be drawn with that picture. So far nothing we've tried has worked well..



Currently, we are using jbuttons, but we can't get them to change their picture once you click on them. Any ideas/suggests/etc?
