Since most people probably weren't following the comments on an earlier thread, I'll post this again.
For those of you who want to really understand JavaScript as a programming language, and even for those who just want a comprehensive reference, I highly recommend JavaScript: The Definitive Guide.
It's full of all kinds of neat stuff you'll never find explained online, and it all flows together so well that you can almost read it straight through like a novel. ;) It's one of the best programming books I've ever used.
