I'm in a spot

I have a very simple bit of javascript that moves the cursor back to a txt box when submitted..






it is called as above. al works fine, and great... I now, however want the target and the action to be somwhere different if the first char of the txt box is

"."

so if text1 is "hello there" i want it to go to the target and urkl above.
if text1 is ".left" i want it togo to the target "mapscreen" and the post action "http://www.101games.co.uk/cgi-bin/ogwap.exe/mapmove"

as you may have guessed my html / javascript is not to good!

Can anyone help??
