Fun Saturday
I coached Ben's basketball team last year ... don't remember how many games we played; maybe 10, but we lost every single one of them. We still had lots of fun, but didn't do much winning. In fact, in the last game of the season last year, we were neck and neck with the other team and almost won - the boys were so excited.
Then last week, was Ben's flag football game - the Chargers. I'm the coach of the team. Last week we played the Raiders. They were a very well-coached team. Our team ... well it had a winless coach :-( We scored first, but then the Raiders scored 37 unaswered points. Our little Chargers team re-grouped for this week's game.
This week we played the Ravens. We went up two scores before they scored. We held them off and ended up scoring two more times for a 25-12 win.
Before today's football game, my little scout troop, along with another leader and two dads, went on an 11 mile bike ride. It was quite the ride - especially on this muggy day.
After the football game, Emma and I went out to Sonic for some Sonic ice cream blasts. I owed her a Sonic blast because she got a 100% on her math test. The story behind this is that her math teacher was trying some funky new way to solve percentage problems (tax, discount, etc). I taught Emma a different way to solve those problems ... then we practiced and practiced. She got a 50% on the quiz ahead of the test. So we worked more on it. At that point, I told her if she got 100%, then I'd take her out for a Sonic blast - a large Sonic blast. The test day came and she ended up with an 80%, but here's the catch - the teacher sent out an email and basically said that all the kids did so horribly, that they were going to do a re-test. It turns out Emma had one of the best grades. So we worked a bit more on it before the re-take. She took it a 2nd time and aced it! We were so proud of her. So we finally were able to go to Sonic today.
Later - after Erick and Camille get back from birthday parties, we are going to Ikea as we need a futon for when our company comes later this week.
It's a hectic, but fun Saturday.

Lost tooth
So when Camille was a baby, she had a tooth injury and it had to be pulled. Now, after all these years, she naturally lost Her first tooth this morning. From what I've been told, she didn't even cry.

Ben's Bike Spill
Before school, yesterday morning, Ben was out riding his bike. He was trying to pull off a 'no-hands' feat, but it didn't turn out too well.
He got banged up pretty bad - couldn't walk, may have passed out too. But all the x-rays came out fine - no broken bones. He has a pretty bad bruise on his lower abdomen; deep scrapes on his elbows, one on his knee and a few on his face.
He took a spill a couple of weeks ago too - but that one was just on the knee. We hope he's going to start riding a bit more cautiously now :-)

Bike Rodeo 2012
Every year, the school holds a bike safety / bike rodeo event. Camille was really happy to show off her skills as well as her new bike she got for her birthday a few months ago.
Erick rode his new bike too. There is a story behind Erick's bike ... Jill and the kids, a couple of years ago, went to Trash Bash and afterwards won one of the prizes they had - a new bike! Emma actually had the winning ticket. But it was a boy's bike. So she gave it to Erick, but it was too big for him to ride. Well, this year he's finally big enough to ride it, but he's been reluctant to do so. We finally got him to ride it a bit ahead of bike rodeo. He was finally comfortable enough to ride it and he even enjoyed riding his new bike.

Camillisms: "my tongue was really tired"
First off, some background ...
When Camille is sleepy or tired, you can usually see her "sucking her tongue." As a baby, she would rub her tongue on the front of her teeth - we call it "tired tongue", but she's really sucking her teeth. We always thought it was neat as there was never any binky or pacifier to worry about, nor was she sucking her thumb or fingers. Anyway - she still does it when she's tired.
So this week, after a loooong week in school, Jill was asking how she did. Camille said she was tired and added, "my tongue was really tired too!"

Camillisms: "Department"
Camille got a hand-me-down set of toys today. One is this hotel with people and an elevator, bedrooms, pool, etc - quite a neat toy. After reading her books before bedtime, I was just laying there and she and I were talking about her new toys. I suggested that the little person could get on the toy airplane, fly to the hotel, stay a while and then get back on the plane to go home. She said that would be neat, but for now she was pretending the hotel was a "department." I said, "a department or an apartment?" She paused a bit - "yeah, an apartment." Then she went on to say, "Sometimes I can't say things very good - it's my Texas accent!"
I couldn't stop laughing!
