Jul. 11th, 2013 07:31 amI did Not Prime Time this year, which made me actually write something for the first time since Yuletide. It was fun! It was also a lot more low key than Yuletide, I guess because it's smaller? This wasn't a bad thing, however.
I received this lovely bit of Torchwood crackfic, which was perfect and pushed all of my buttons, and was far better than I deserved, considering the totally vague prompt I provided.

Apr. 25th, 2013 08:02 amHi, dear author!
My first experience in general with writing fanfic and with the fanfic community was this past Yuletide, so, frankly, it feels a little weird to be able to request The West Wing, Torchwood, and Hawaii Five-0.
Right now, I'm lazy and tired (it's the end of the semester, and I'm a college professor), so I'll echo what I said at Yuletide; I don't do:
- rape or non-con. Seriously, please, just don't go there.
- child or animal harm
- embarrassment or humiliation squick
- mostly, explicit sex. Sometimes I'm after that, but when I am, there's plenty out there to be found. (Though, if what's speaking to you is porn, well, then porn you shall write.)
I do love:
- gen. Good gen is underrated.
- strong friendships
- good dialog, lots of humor - I love the "walk and talk" style dialog of the West Wing.
- world building or works that could be canon
- AUs; one of my favorite stories right now is Motion Practice, an Avengers AU: http://archiveofourown.org/works/489470/chapters/854119
- crackfic. This fic, where Danny on Hawaii 5-0 is turned into a cat? Hilarious. http://archiveofourown.org/works/211030
There's also the seal story. It's epic. http://archiveofourown.org/works/300379
Apparently, turning people into animals on H50 is a thing. :)
- any sort of relationship/gender configurations. Gender bending of canonical characters is fine, as long as it's done respectfully. Have you read the story about a FTM pregnant Sherlock? It's amazing, and sweet, and Mary steals the show. http://archiveofourown.org/works/116157
- crossovers. mm, tasty crossovers.
But, in the end, save my list of "don't do, please", I'll happily read whatever you write! :)
As far as specific fandoms:
- TWW: I don't ship anyone in specific on TWW, but I do love the characters and how much they care for each other, and as I said, dialogue is king on TWW. I've seen all seven seasons. Multiple times.
- Torchwood: Like a lot of other folks, I haven't see Miracle Day, but I've seen through Children of the Earth, and it's fair game.
- Hawaii Five-0: I ship Danny and Steve, like everyone else on the planet, but really, whatever you want to do here works for me. The themes of loyalty and found family just get to me, even if the series focus has been drifting a bit. I'm current with the current season.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing what you write! :)

Dec. 25th, 2012 10:00 pmIt's been a lovely, glorious Christmas, with a lot of good food (oh man) and good company, and good presents and lots of love.
Two of the best presents today, though, involve two of the best stories that a first time Yuletider could have hoped for:
Mrs. Pollifax and the Christmas Party. Mrs. Pollifax being her lovely self, and a bonus appearance by Jack Harkness, who flirts with everyone. (In other words, omg, Torchwood/Mrs. P crossover, someone else brought the crack, win.)
So it Shall be Told, Generation Unto Generation. This is a delicious Newsflesh/Incryptid crossover. There's mice, Buffy, Maggie, the bulldogs, Shaun, George, and lots of HAIL. There's an author who obviously loves the canon. There is a lot of win.
So I got two cracky delicious stories crossing-over some of my favorite fandoms. I love all the Yuletides forever.

Oct. 29th, 2012 08:34 amIt is the hallowed day every year, the day we turn on the propane heat. It is grooddy out there.
I am hoping that we are between the predicted winter weather and the predicted hurricane onslaught, despite joking about wanting a snow day this week, and I hope that everyone who is in the path of Sandy (there's still a few of y'all reading, right?) rides it out okay.

Oct. 25th, 2012 07:22 pmDear Yuletide author,
Hi! :)
I feel as though I haven't been that helpful in my optional comments... I found myself saying a lot of "no, really, I'm happy with anything here!" And honestly, it's true. so maybe it's easier to tell you what I don't like (and a few things I do), and let you figure it out from there.
So, what I asked for:
( Bandits (2001) )
( Mrs. Pollifax - Dorothy Gilman )
( Lady Julia Grey series - Deanna Raybourn )
( InCryptid - Seanan McGuire )
( And a bit about me: )
But, in the end, save my list of "don't do, please", I'll happily read whatever you write! :)

Oct. 25th, 2012 05:49 pmAnd now, for the catchings up.
The last weekend in September, Marian Call and The Ladies of Ragnarok were playing near DC. Off we went.
The concert was awesome (Marian puts on a great show, and the Doubleclicks, whom I'd never seen before, were sweet and hilarious and fantastic), our hotel was nice (thank you, Hotwire), and the Museum of the Marine Corps, which we stopped by on the way home, was way, way more interesting than expected. (And huger, too).

Apr. 30th, 2012 02:28 pm- Another new recipe for the month: last night I made these steamed chicken wraps, though deconstructed - I steamed the chicken on top of the cabbage, and then served them separately. They were pretty good (Val said dinner was very good, which doesn't happen often), but I had to leave out a lot of the spice for her, so now I'm wondering how to punch up the flavor without making them too spicy.
The texture was smooth - almost too smooth. I wonder about blending the non-chicken ingredients and then mixing them into ground chicken, rather than blending the whole thing, which frankly squicked me out a bit. - This month's new food is amaranth. Like a lot of GF folks, I eat a lot of rice and potatoes, but I was getting tired of the rice and potatoes thing, so I googled for gluten free whole grains, and amaranth popped up. The new Whole Foods had it in bulk, so I gave it a go. I like it a lot - it's small pellets with a mouthfeel like roe and a pretty nuetral taste. Will be getting again.

Mar. 23rd, 2012 03:59 pmSo, this past Sunday, I did in fact make the hearts of palm and radish salad, minus the shrimp, and it is very very good. It is also very mayonnaise heavy - I think that next time, I'll cut down on the mayonnaise by quite a bit and up the horseradish. Also, the radishes have steadily turned it pink over the week, not affecting the taste but making the appearance a little odd. Still, good; very tasty with edamame.
I also made another quiche that I've been eating for breakfast all week; the cheese quotient in it was much lower than the week before's quiche (so good, so calorie heavy), and there were more greens (spinach, zucchini, and kale), than eggs. Very good, but I think this week I need a break from the quiche routine, but I'm not sure what else I want to make.
The stuffed cabbage morphed into a casserole, since there was some miscommunication over the use of the cabbage. I left out the apple, because I was running out of space in the baking dish, and the sausage, and only used about half a cabbage. This is SO good, and there is SO MUCH of it. So, verdict, tasty, but make a quarter batch next time.
Also, I baked off some tofu last night to eat. Noms.
I need to poke at the cookbooks and decide what's for breakfast and lunch next week... :)
