Aidan was baptized on Oct 13, 2018. It was quite the experience that he won't forget..........neither will I.
As those that know Aidan, know that he has a lot of anxieties. One of them is the fear of water. He will not go into a pool and it's even hard for him to take a bath (well, to get his hair washed mostly). But in talking to him about his baptism and he knew he wanted to do it even though it would be hard, we thought there might be high anxiety but that he'd let it be done. He just started freaking out and refused to do it. We were trying everything. Having him just stick his feet in on the top step to test the temp. Multiple people, myself, Josh's cousin Emily, Aidan's old primary teacher went to the back to try to coax him to do it. Nothing was getting through to him. His old primary teacher (who has had multiple years of stake calling with baptisms) was giving our Bishop suggestions to try.
This is finally what happened. We closed the doors so that only his grand fathers as the witnesses and our bishop got to see it happen. Aidan didn't want everyone to see him, he told us as much. Josh took Aidan into his arms like you would a baby. Holding him against his chest and in his arms. I got into a jumpsuit myself and went into the water with them. I held Aidan against my chest with my arms around his chest. Josh did the baptismal ordinance and we both just dunked him under the water until it was done! So yes, I never thought that that could happen, but then again.....I thought, what if someone had no legs? Wouldn't that be the way to baptise them? Now I always thought that only the kid getting baptized and the priesthood holder could be in there....but I was proved wrong. I guess all that matters is all the words from the prayer and the total immersion!
Lucas and Melody definitely weren't happy that they had to miss it, as I'm sure were all those that didn't get to see.
Well, I hope for smoother baptisms for the other two kids who love pools!
