Guys, sorry I've been away, I know I have some things to reply to and all, I've been super busy with my uni project and work, but now that I finally have a day off I decided to something extra fun! and you know what that means: installing software!! In this case, MediaWiki. Because well, who doesn't want to run their own wiki? ofc I first needed a server software and didn't want to use IIS (which I'm using for the uni project) cause its awful to use and requires so much tweaking and I'm super confused and just couldn't get it to work. So, I did something wild for once in my life, ie installed WAMP, so that now I'm running both Apache and IIS on the same computer! That's not recommended at all but I did change the ports so that Apache listens to something other than 80, so I think everything should be ok.

And, after all that work (I'm not even telling about how I had to reinstall everything because I accidentally deleted my sql server root user, haha. That's just... way too stupid), I FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK!! I have mediawiki now! and I started working on a reaaaally awesome wiki, I'm never going to put it online because it would hardly interest anyone, it's just some place for me to store my own personal history cause I've been looking for some good multimedia format for that for ages and a wiki is perfect with all the linking and knowledge organizing possilibilities!! I swear this is not as narcissistic as it sounds, I'm storing mostly the stuff I shared with my sister. I just have this obsession on knowing exactly when things happened so this is the perfect way for me to store all the details.

So, how's your day? anything special going on? I hope you're having this much fun too but if you're not just go here and install it :> I was actually supposed to make an icon dump today but idk if I can get that done now that I have such an inspiring thing going on.

My computer has been a total pain in the ass for the whole freaking summer and I'm starting to get a bit fed up with it. I just installed some more RAM and it works beautifully, I love how fast it now is, but there has been some malware popping up every now and then, mostly trojans, and it's just not cool at all D:< the whole system is old (haven't changed it since I bought the computer with my graduation money in 2007!), there's all kinds of crap on my system and it's hard to keep track of what came from where and when and what's important, and of course there's the whole load of 'important' windows dren that's impossible to remove. Oh, and something has definitely infected my dvd drive and I can't watch anything except from files. This something was on my startup programs too but I think I stopped it. Still can't get my Doctor Who vids to work though :(

So I decided that if this won't get better very very soon, I'll wipe out everything and start all over and install a Linux this time, possibly Ubuntu. I just hope most of my important programs will work on it, especially Photoshop cause I don't think I could icon without it anymore :( I outright refuse to get a whole new computer though, cause you can make any system as good as new if you know which components to buy. My hardware is fine (especially now with the lovely new RAM, god PS is so fast!!), it's just the software side that's a bit cranky, lol.

Icon randomizer picked a 100% appropriate icon this time! :P

Sooo it looks like my registry cleaning kinda helped with the whole freezing issue, but I'm still getting random Blue Screens of Death and reboots. The BSOD I usually get mentions memory and from reading stuff from others having experienced these things I'm leaning towards a faulty RAM stick now. Which is bad because I really don't know how to deal with hardware, I'm a software guy k? ;_; I'll still try this myself though cause what IT student would just give up and take the thing to a repair shop? NOT ME, YOU HEAR THAT! :P Nope, I'm going to open my computer and remove one ram stick at a time to see which is the faulty one and then I guess I'll replace it. I'm actually a bit excited too cause hey an opportunity to learn more about this side of computers that has been the most unfamiliar area to me this far. Well good for me for focusing on the bright side, no? :D

Anyway if this doesn't work I'll probably just buy a new one cause really there's no point in taking this rusty old machine to an overpriced rep shop anymore and I've wanted a laptop anyway so this would be a perfect excuse. That might take some time though and I can't work that well on a computer that reboots randomly all the freaking time so if I'll be less online now and possibly have to skip some of my icon challenges, this is the reason. Too bad cause what I've made for the current round at Imagefarscape_20in20 this far is pretty neat imho!

Oh and when I get this fixed, I plan on posting all my Imageturbo_rumble round 7 icons + Imagefarscapelims icons and new versions of them (modified according to the concrit they got!). I'm really proud for getting bronze at the LIMS though, of course I would have liked to win but I actually got a lot further than I expected (there were many more specific competitors I was sure I'd lose to). Excited about the next round though, it's sooo close, I'm definitely signing up :)

Oh, and about turbo_rumble - why don't you all participate? New round is here and there's plenty of time to still sign up :) FOUR THEMES MADE UP BY YOURS TRULY TOO, so make me feel good by giving them a try? :DDD
