Back to it….

Okay, the back burner didn’t last long.

I started thinking about what i would do with these bits if I couldn’t make them work in the mystery quilt. I decided to sew them together while I pondered that.

Image

I realized I was just 16 units short of making them work and I found a “close enough “ batik scrap and made some more. Perhaps it was my Fabric Godmother that provided it? Haha! A big thanks to Grace for that term and a good laugh!

I had nothing but slivers left of that scrap!

Image

I still needed to find something for that inner border.

Image

I got all four strips together while thinking on that.

Image

I had more background fabric and suddenly realized I could just use that. It worked. Not perfect, but good enough.

Image

Bonnie had pieced corner blocks, but I was tired of scrounging for the scraps I needed so I cheated and cut up the last of my light blue batik into plain squares for the corners.

Image

It doesn’t look as good as Bonnie’s idea, but I’m just done with this. Don’t get me wrong, I love this quilt and I’m really glad I kept moving even when I wasn’t sure what I was doing. It finished at 60 inches square. I’m so glad to NOT add this to the UFO list!

Have a great day!

Now what?

My blocks for the Quiltville Mystery are all sewn together. It currently measures 50 inches square.

Image

It definitely needs a border to bring the size up for a throw quilt. Sadly, I don’t have enough units for the pieced border and not enough fabric to make any more. This is what I have left.

Image

I found this printed Northcott fabric in my stash. I had nothing in the batik drawer that was even a slight possibility. This is close, but maybe not close enough.

Image
Image

I don’t love it.

Image

No, I’m not willing to go buy something. I think this project will move to the back burner until inspiration strikes.

Have a great day!

Wild Burros

I love spending time in the desert! And seeing these adorable burros is always a bonus.

Image

The one above looked like the elderly one of the group.

Image

This sweet one just stared at me. They are quite friendly and gentle.

Image

I try not to bother them.

And of course, the saguaros are always majestic.

This and That

I just finished my first puzzle of the year. This was a gift from Daughters #2 and SIL. It is from Joshua Tree NP and definitely on my bucket list.

Image

I’ve been doing some secret sewing lately. This box represents the end of one such project. Now I have another one to start work on.

Image

We’ve had some cold days here. Winslow knows how to get cozy!

Image

Last weekend we got out in the desert for some rock hunting. Didn’t find any great rocks, but it was gorgeous.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Baby Bunting!

I’ve been putting off making this because I wasn’t exactly sure how to go about it. It didn’t take long at all to get the pieces cut.

Image

One pattern I saw left the edges raw. I decided I didn’t want any fraying, so I stitched two together and turned them. The points were very fiddly!

Image

But eventually, I got them done and pressed.

Image

I cut strips of a cream solid 1 1/2” wide. I folded in half the long way, then opened that up and pressed the raw edges to the inside. I found these clips very helpful for holding the triangles in place when inserting into the cream strips.

Image

Then it was just one long seam.

Image

Ta daaa!

Image

All ready to ship!

Have a great day!

Mystery Progress!

Thanks to a sew day with my local quilt group, I made some real progress on my mystery quilt.

Image

When I got home, I kept the moment going and finished my blocks!

Image

I’m not sure what to do about the border. I haven’t made enough units to make it like Bonnie’s and I’m out of the fabric I used for the units I do have done.

I guess I’ll think about it while I sew the blocks together.

Have a great day!

QV Mystery

Last Friday, Bonnie posted the reveal for this year’s mystery quilt. And I love it! There are two alternating blocks. This one:

Image

And this one:

Image

I don’t know if you remember, but I opted to make only half the number of suggested blocks which meant twelve of each. After seeing the reveal, I made one more for a total of twenty-five so I could set them 5 x 5. As you can see below, I have plenty of work to do.

Image

I have six blocks finished and nineteen to go.

Image

I’m pleased with my fabric choices. Bonnie always does scrappy and normally, scrappy is my jam. However, I’m quite happy with the crisp look I am getting here.

Have a great day!

Bunting

I’ve been asked to sew bunting for a new baby’s nursery. This is the fabric pull.

Image

Time to put my GO! Pennant Die to work!

Image

I hope to get this knocked out this week.

Have a great day!

Leaders/Enders

I’ve been sewing print squares to some leftover white squares as leader/enders. I haven’t gotten much sewing done lately, so there aren’t a lot here.

Image

I was initially thinking of just a basic checkerboard lap quilt.

Image

But then I was inspired by a four patch top I saw on the Sane Crazy Crumbly blog. Check it out here. So much inspiration, it’s a great daily read.

Image

It’s just four patches and plain alternate blocks, but doing diagonal chains of color really kicks it up a notch!

So I now have a plan for what will be a small donation quilt. Thanks for the inspiration, Cathy!

Have a great day!
