Why KHIPU?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to dramatically improve the lives of people and increase the prosperity of businesses, but solving a problem as hard as intelligence will require a diversity of thought and the best minds from every corner of the globe. Our mission is to support the advancement of Latin American talent, research, and companies in AI through an annual event.
KHIPU events primary goals are:
- To offer training in advanced machine learning topics, such as deep learning and reinforcement learning.

Guiding Principles for Diversity and Inclusion at KHIPU
KHIPU is committed to ensuring that diverse communities benefit from the opportunities available in artificial intelligence. We aspire to establish a conference that grows responsibly while understanding the diverse and multicultural characteristics of Latin America. We seek to be leaders in diversity and inclusion across all facets of conference participation, including leaders, speakers, and attendance. We identified several factors whose biased distribution could challenge a fair representation at KHIPU (disability, socioeconomic status, geography, affiliation, family dependents, discipline, and demographics, among others) and defined good practices and concrete actions to promote diversity and inclusion at the conference.

Montevideo Declaration on Artificial Intelligence and its Impact in Latin America
On March 10, 2023, during the Latin American Meeting on Artificial Intelligence KHIPU 2023, which brings together the scientific community of the region, the Montevideo Declaration on Artificial Intelligence was presented to urge governments and companies to make AI developments put at the service of the people, reflecting the particularities and problems of Latin America. More than 100 specialists call for artificial intelligence technologies to serve the common good, improving people’s quality of life and aligning with democratic principles and human rights.
