I'm usually impressed with schlage locks, sure they are no Medico or Abloy, but they have for years made a good consumer grade deadbolt, until now, I was called by a fiend who was unable to get into a house shes pet-sitting for, the owners had recently replaced the deadbolt with a Schlage, but it was just not unlocking.
I gathered up tools, and (wide assortment in the hopes i could jimmy something, not knowing if th elock had physically broken/un-unlockable. ) and headed down there, they had gotten it to give but only through brute force and willpower.
So i set on taking it apart to see what was wrong, and i found the deadbolt part (the tongue) was kinda not lining up right and the door was really not drilled out deep enough for it. so i set about removing it and whittling away the wood, got it all after about 2 dry fittings, but as i was driving home i realized I was kinda disappointed with the quality of the tongue, it was flimzy, no hardened metal core, and unlike many other brands, the bolts don't even go through it iots like they made it extra wimpy. even quickset builds a better deadbolt tongue.
Im wondering if they got it from walmart?
