One thing having a mini laptot(thanks Imageanda for infecting me with the term) running a kinda wacked/stripped and left for dead version of fedora Linux, Is good for is learning, I'm sure if i left the machine as a stock config used the stupid MS-BOB like hand holdy desktop and didn't install a ton of my own applications im sure it works great.

But Setting it up for a real desktop, tweaking things, upgrading packages, setting up sniffing and wardriving stuff, adding bluetooth, and skype, adding compilers and kernel source, and teaking other stuff i find tha more often than not im chasing around some little bug that cropped up because i broke it somewhere or other.

Its not quite as Your on your own kid, as Slackware was when i started pre-version 1, and a whole lot more figgure it out yourself than the ubuntu experience. But each problem and each fix I get a little boost of joy.

aside from the major stupid pain in the ass to add more memory, I'm still liking this laptop lots.

my old powerbook g3 lives! it has become project wilhelmtel the solid state linux laptop,

2gb CF card in a laptop ide adapter is the hdd.

im currently running Xbuntu, i finally have figured out what packages to skip in the "advanced" install off of the alternate install cd.

now to get it to work with my wifi card, and see what sort of wireless tools i can get working with it in the available drive space.

i will try and take photos of it tomorrow.

great timelapse photo http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0925096/M/

in other news im now the owner of a 1994 toyota corolla which is in need of some sort of modification to the paint job.. although i'm going to wait until after i have it registered and the onceover done by my mechanic. just to make sure i should not just turn around and resell it.

i also have far less crap in my fridge. no Imagepvck did not get hungry and eat it all, i tossed a bunch because something is going bad and there was too much questionable to sort it out.

work? its been more of the about the same. but i will be changing desks away form the seat of way too many distractions(hell seat), and i hope to settle into more of a groove working on pc's in the repair pit, and possibly helping our swamped dsl team, meanwhile finally being able to concentrate a little more on my primary job of answering phones and help emails.

not having a heck of alot of luck making my solid state ppc-linux box (2gb compact flash drive with a laptop ide adapter, i have managed to get a under 1.5gb install setup on a 10gb hdd, but when i try to 'dd' the drive to my cf card, it always tells me out of space.

LAZYWEB:
anyone know how to use linux dd to copy a primary hdd to a smaller drive? and make it boot off it? (after swapping it in as /dev/hda like the old hdd was) is it just a matter of picking the right syntax
