I am bad at remember new people's names. even worse at remembering new (to me) cute girls names. I made the realization that that may be due to the fact moments after they introduce themselves my mind is suddenly whisked from remembering the detail i just got, to explaining or re-iterating my name because there is often some question or intrigue as to the origin of my name, or how its spelled.
From now on I must remember to try and repeat their name (i hear its a technique used by successful shmoozers) before i get derailed!
Also, i have a hard time really hearing people when im in a noisey clubish environment so sometimes rather than annoying people by turning an ear to them and asking "What?) a half dozen times, i just absorb what i can and smile and nod at the rest(i often get it all when i run it back and start applying mental filters/context substitution)..
