Beauty, powerless and helpless, hates understanding, because the latter exacts from it what it cannot perform. But the life of spirit is not one that shuns death, and keeps clear of destruction; it endures death and in death maintains its being. It only wins to its truth when it finds itself utterly torn asunder. It is this mighty power, not by being a positive which turns away from the negative,
as when we say of anything it is nothing or it is false, and, being then done with it, pass off to something else: on the contrary, spirit is this power only by looking the negative in the face, and dwelling with it. This dwelling with it is the magical power that converts the negative into being — The wound can only be healed by the spear that smote it. And this problem can only be solved by blood and iron.
With the open eyes of their dead fathers Towards other worlds they gaze ahead — Children who, wide-eyed, become Periscopes of the buried dead.

3 Weeks ago, Vienna’s Panzerschokolade Soundsystem visited Leipzig with 2 PA’s, that got rigged in the basement of the “House Of Struwwelhaar” for PanzerSchokolade #27. A lot of different music got played, I did not catch much myself, you know me, “faire la conversation et discutez joyeusement”… Not sure why now, but I just remembered those two people, i heard at the party about and met in the end, they missed almost half of the night, being lost in Connewitz, walking around in the warm drizzle, while one of them slightly loosing his shit over the unnerving detection, that one of his socks getting slowly but surely moist and more moist through a, so far unnoticed going (ha!), broken sole, which made his foot look and feel like a drowned naked mole rat until further notice. What an unenviable situation must this have been already, but as if that wasn’t enough, got they also temporarily abducted by a haunted night bus and its enigmatic driver? Yes! Making this up? You can’t. What I find the most disturbing: when asked why they didn’t ask someone, they said, with a trembling lower lip, that 99,9% of the locals did not know or wouldn’t tell, where the busses and trams go. As if they collectively hide something unspeakable about Leipziger öffentliche Verkehrtsmittel…
Brrr, got Goosebumps on my scalp from thinking about it, let’s come back to the music, my God. Following, you get 2 of the 18 (?) sets that got played at the party.
The DJ-set by CRi, la tourbillon, couldn’t be recorded and due a bit of gefrett with the timetable, she had just enough time to play approximately half of her set and decided to record the whole mix as intended, when she got back home after the weekend and the record bag still offered the flow of the night and what she giddily spun here is without a doubt a very bonnily “Panzerplattenspiel’ of the turbotrope kind. As the set progresses the listener will feel more and more like a fluttering hummingsbird, probably with sparkling violet ears juddering even.

The set from Inushini was recorded that night, a seismic mixture of πῦρ (pyr), meaning “fire” and κλαστός (klastós), meaning “broken in pieces” at an unhinged velocity. You will get scrubbed like a real ‘Dickichtschlüpfer’ in the shrub.

In both cases, listening to the sets will get your three ossicles soundly dusted off when the malleus (hammer) get sledged on the incus (anvil) and you might finish with stapes stirred up and an ear ring…

08.06.2024, NoAlign Presents Time Destroys Everything At OT301, Amsterdam, NL
Doors will open at OT301 on Saturday June 8 at 19.00, and the talk will start shortly after, so make sure to be there on time if you want to catch it.
Talk Overview: Christoph Fringeli is a writer, musician and publisher living and working in Berlin. He runs Praxis Records since 1992 and is the editor of Datacide – Magazine for Noise & Politics since 1997.” In his talk he will present and critically investigate the concept of counterculture from its origins in the 1960s via its mutations with Punk in the 70s and how it entered a new phase in the 90s with the explosion of sound system culture, free festivals and self-managed distribution networks of electronic music, as well as the intersections of this musical underground with radical emancipatory politics. He will also look at reactionary attempts to co-opt countercultural strategies and topics by the far right as well as recuperation by the capitalist mainstream. The crucial question is: How relevant are the concepts of challenging the cultural, political, economic and social status quo devised by the radicals of the past in the digital age? Today we have whole new arsenals of communication and agitation or experimentation. We have to apply these to complement the media experience we have accumulated in the last century, in line with the gains we have made in terms of knowledge about revolutionary history. Christoph’s talk will be followed by discussion and will be illustrated by selected visual material.

That weekend, it seems hell is full once more and the dead will walk the earth again, if for nothing else then playing a DJ-set as Zombieflesheater (last slot), for De Blauwe Aanslag at Supamolly, Berlin. See me there, sweating on the Technics.“Ah, ha, ha, ha, dead alive, dead alive.“

__________ __ __ __ _ _ _
After some hours, the dogs, exhausted by running round, almost dead, their tongues hanging out, set upon one another and, not knowing what they are doing, tear one another into thousands of pieces with incredible rapidity. Yet they do not do this out of cruelty. One day, a glazed look in her eyes, my mother said to me:‘When you are in bed and you hear the barking of the dogs in the countryside, hide beneath your blanket, but do not deride what they do:they have an insatiable thirst for the infinite, as you, and I, and all other pale, long-faced human beings do.’ Since that time, I have respected the dead woman’s wish. Like those dogs I feel the need for the infinite. I cannot, cannot satisfy this need.
This lies in the area of posibilities that night: • Experimental Hardcore • Psychedelic Speedcore • Maximal • Ritual • Noise • Electro • Jungle • Drum & Bass • Breakcore • Tekno • Harshkoc’h
What do we have here? Anyone? Any information about Context, Background, History, etc…? I started a Youtube playlist in early 2018, if i remember right, after one such video got viral on Facebook for some days, where you could see and hear two motorcycle Soundsystems having a loudness competition in the fields, what i called a “Horn-Off”. Some people made lame jokes but nobody seemed interested to find more of this stuff, so i was intrigued and i spent half a day of detective work on Youtube, till i had hit jackpot seeing the horns i searched for in the recommendations. The speech barrier wasn’t helpful either, aswell as the european Google bubble, from which it is a bit tricky to escape, i even “scanned” some articles on Wikipedia and other pages regarding Bengal for key words, but all i found, was some indian court paper about some unrelated cases of noise polution…
Since then i couldn’t find a way to present it here, technically, as it is so much stuff and coming, and because it somehow got so “precious” too me. Also thought i might find any real infos over time, but even asking experts for asian experimental and noise didn’t help, probably because this has no connection to a international (academic?) noise music scene, the music they play is often some sort of hard bass or strange fast sound reminding on french speedcore, mashed up with folk or traditional music, and simply sound devices, as it seems. Recently some more videos got viral again a few months ago, but i’m not sure if anyone outside of Bengal, where this happens, as far as i know, found out more about it this time.
It is a rabbit hole par excellence, especially filling the playlist where you find 3 new videos with every added one. I did that another half day now, updated the list a bit and got the feeling that they got on even wilder, now also women and children can be seen going mental here and there. The atmosphere of some videos reminded me on the Köpi Basement while Nihil Fist played live two weeks ago.
My interest lies explicitly on the stuff i added so far, just the rawest, fastest sounds, risky forward leaning speaker towers, horn speaker stand offs, sub bass, psychedelic police and emergency sirens, french 90s teknikal vibes, soundsystems mounted on mopeds, etc. and way less on the “normal PAs” that are more common in other parts of asia or bigger events with different sounds/music. Surely many of the videos are super distorted, because the phones can’t handle the volume, but even counting that in (and enjoying the crunch anyways), many of the clips especially those with the horn soundclashs, with a subbass and kickdrums underlying, that could be right from the reverse/explore toi catalog, are far out, no words can describe that. It also takes the “elite” european soundsystem scene ad absurdum to some degree, at least without any context. I also had the impression that all this is a relatively new phenomenon, because when i found it the oldest videos i came across dated back to 2015/16, camera phones were around before that time already. So i am really curious, if someone can finally shed some light on it, for the interested western fans. I attached a few assorted clips, but it’s absolutely not possible to show the whole picture of that craze with this good handful of videos, so i highly recommend to dive into the full YouTube-Playlist, that is filled up with over 300 clips by now (9/23), and get a psyched bengal shrill out.
Small update 1: Nyege Nyege Tapes from Uganda released this cassette by DJ Smiley Bobby a few months ago. from their Bandcamp page: “Heavy-duty Indian soundsystem carnage by its leading proponent DJ Smiley Bobby, on Uganda’s immense NNT – unmissable for anyone wowed by recent videos of Indian sound clashes.”
Small update 2: Every time i go down this path again, to see what’s cooking in Bengals soundclash heaven, and to fill the YouTube-playlist a bit more, it gets weirder and weirder, here we have the youngsters already blasting sounds on their miniature sound systems, full functioning in this clip, cute tooting.
And finally the Youtube Playlist. The embedded link below shows just 200 clips, to see all videos in that list, open it on my Channel. CLICK HERE
That someone distorted the timeline is the only way to explain why breakcore seems to be erased from that photography Marty Mcfly has in his Jacket,..wait that was something else…
