Living in Deep 13

I feel melancholy tonight. Disconnected, I think. It's been about six months since I walked away from my regular social media platform, and while it's been very good reducing my overall anxiety, it has fed a lot into my otherwise introverted tendencies. No whining here, just reflection. Sundays occasionally make me somber.

In an effort to avoid (read: procrastinate) on writing up some RP stuff that I'll drop later this week, I did some art. It's White Collar related and no one is surprised.

If I manage to do any of that pre-prep writing tonight, maybe I'll report back. I've got a couple things planned (mostly just test drive prompts and planning whatever I need to revive my currently-dead character) but I've been fussing over it for weeks-or-so now and I either need to shit or get off the pot. \o\

Here I am, a couple days later. o/ Hello, again, dear friends. :3 Arrogant Bastard Ale is my drink of the moment, so cheers to anyone who's having a drink tonight.

Gosh, it's been a bit since my last update. XD Here goes!

So. What's been going on in real life? Um. Oh! Jess' mom is here. It's always great fun having her. We took her out to Superior, AZ one day (and ate at the oldest Dairy Queen in existence, it seemed) and she got to see Prescott, AZ a couple days ago, too! It's a shame we can't take her to see Sedona or Flagstaff, both GORGEOUS for those who don't know. :D At least we had a chance to have a rocking Super Bowl Party, right? Although, no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get drunk. XD Weird.

Among good news, my beautiful Jessica got herself a fantastic review, benefits, and a raise! I am so proud of her, and so glad that she's finally working for a company that can really see what kind of asset she is! HOORAY!

Still looking for a job. Leads are pretty thin, so I'm starting to consider applying for Starbucks or Target or something. A job's a job, right? Although, it would be nice if my mom would hear from one of her many leads so that she can start contributing again. <.<

As for Larry? Well, charming as ever! He's made some really awesome meals this week. I went to bed late last night and he was in the process of baking some wings. I'm curious as to how they turned out and shall investigate upon lunchtime!

Minor injury accomplished! Sokka broke his collarbone, though he's got the benefit of having healers around, so his recovery time will be closer to 3-4 weeks than the typical 4-6. Plus, he'll be able to use his arm for light duty quicker as long as he remembers to follow the rules.

During his downtime, Sokka's going to be trying to organize a police force of his own. So far, he's only got Lieutenant Appa amongst his ranks, but there's a couple promising recruits on the horizon. Plus Jet. Sokka can always bully Jet into working. LOL Beyond that, Mouse and I are sort of looking into dealing with characters moving and the upcoming holiday, but that shouldn't be too difficult considering how very flexible Mouse is. \o/

Dropped from star_kingdom unfortunately. :( All the frowns for that, but I just can't lie to myself anymore and pretend I'll keep up. I haven't been and nothing's probably going to change that until I either find more time to focus or spend less time at adstringendum. Either way, I think it's the right decision (though I forgot to put the SK icon in my plurk and nearly scared a bunch of people from AD half to death. Ooops!)


I guess that's really about it. I'm sure I could find plenty more to say, but for now, that's a good glimpse in brief.

 So, I've got a little time, so I thought I'd do an update!

IRL:

We've been trying to eat better this year. It's nice! I've had a chance to hep cook some meals I wouldn't normally eat. What we made yesterday? Lemon pepper chicken with asparagus sauteed in butter and garlic and a short-grained brown rice. It was really delicious! We seared the chicken in the cast-iron pan and finished it in the over. On tonight's plate? Pork chops stuffed with a home-made wheat-based stuffing with apples and walnuts, some wild rice, and glazed carrots! I haven't had it yet, but omg, it smells so good in here!

I'd like to cook more. I've gotten good with the knives and I rarely use a recipe. If I thought I could afford it, I'd go to culinary school. ^_^


RP:

Not too much to update on the role play front. 

In adstringendum I'm giving Sokka a dog! He's getting an Olde English Sheepdog, which he will name Appa.



Recently, he's been trying to make friends with Azula. Odds are, that's not going to go very well, but at least he's keeping peace in mind when he's trying to maintain through the chaos. To help a little, Mary and I have been playing with "Letters Across the Realm" in her musebox, so Sokka gets a chance to communicate with a familiar Aang again. It's bittersweet, but cathartic.

And now it's time for dinner!

Not too much to update. 

Christmas is coming.

I painted a bare maple tree on the wall and decorated it with paper ornaments. Been crafting a lot. Thinking about art, too. Really oughta have a sketchbook in hand but I find my hands are usually already busy, so who knows if that'll happen.

Made a couple pixel plushies to add to the collection. The first two are gifts for friends of renarcher for sticking with her during tumultuous times in RP Land:
Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender
& Billy from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers

And, since I was already working in Photoshop, I thought I'd make a couple Al Calavicci plushies (from Quantum Leap for anyone not following along) because I'm selfish like that. >.<

With any luck, one of these will be just one slide on what will prove to be an epic animated .gif where Al changes outfits as often as he does on the series. It sounds cool in my head, okay?! LOL!

It's amazing how quickly the world changes. I was reminded of this fact when I opened my e-mail newsletter from Mequoda Daily. The topic of the day was the ever changing market of the internet, basically, with a focus on how marketers (like myself) need to adapt our strategies to fit the new generation.

I was absolutely run-through with chills upon reading these provided "facts:"

• Incoming freshmen have never used a card catalog to find a book.
• Text has always been hyper.
• They have always been able to read books on an electronic screen.
• They're always texting 1 n other.
• They are wireless, yet always connected.
• They grew up with and have outgrown faxing as a means of communication.
• "Google" has always been a verb.
• Text messaging is their email.
• For them, the Green Giant has always been Shrek, not the big guy picking vegetables.

With a daughter starting high school yesterday, it's just... amazing and sobering to think that things can change so much.

Just think where technology (and ourselves) will be in another ten years!

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.
