OOPS!! Just realized I accidentally posted this friends-only :( So sorry, I hope no one thought I was being completely unthoughtful and just cut folks without heads up.. aargh.

Am in process of lightly pruning my readinglist, as I simply lack the time&energy to keep up properly and am also working on cutting down the time I spend behind the computer.

With some of you I've only been acquinted for a relatively short time, others I've known longer; please know it's nothing personal.. I just feel there isn't a click or hardly any interaction. So I think it's okay to go our seperate ways again. I really do wish to give all on my list proper attention, so am trying to create a more managable reading page.

I do not wish to remove any of you who enjoy reading/staying in touch through my livejournal - so if you find yourself removed but would like to stay on just send me a message and I'll fix that :)

Maybe we'll run into each other again somewhere here in the livejournal (or dreamwidth) community. If so, till then, otherwise, I wish you all the best!

ps. As this is (now) a public entry I am screening all comments, in attempt to keep trolls and unwanted visitors at bay :))

During the last bits of the closed beta I so was looking forward to April 30 and had all kinds of ideas and plans in my head on how I was going to migrate over to Dreamwidth and to start crossposting to LJ and what not. Then April 30 came and went and the first days of May marched in and I just have been so swamped with house&garden chores, university and other real life stuffies.. that I hardly get to updating any journal let alone finish the puzzle in my head on how to "do" the whole livejournal-dreamwidth thing. Bwah, I don't like it. :(

Now that the open beta is a fact and more people will be able to come join our fun here on Dreamwidth, I think it's time for a more introduc... uhh introductionary, no that's not it either, drat can't think of the word! type of post here on my dreamwidth as well as livejournal. With a little info on how I plan on doing this whole having-two-journals-thing (crossposting and how/where to comment), decide on whether or not I want to import my older entries and if so, whether I want to do that in this journal or an archival one, and all that stuff. But I really don't have the energy and inspiration to sit down and write .. so that'll be for soon*ish I hope.

Over the past years I have ran into quite a bunch of photo/art challenges online. Just to list a bunch.. 26things, a-day-in-the-life (see for instance sh1ft.org projects), 365photos/a-photo-a-day (seen on Flickr and friends-journals), Deck of Me/Art Journal Challenge, day-of-the- week challanges, and now this 100 themes art challenge.

Apperently I just "missed" the Sh1ft.org s 26things March 2009 scravanger hunt though offcourse there is nothing saying I can not still do it. Then in May there is a new "A Day In The Life" - while it is fun to photoblog a day this isn't really something that would make me create on a regular base heh (unless I was do to a aditl daily but.. no thanks ;-))

I kinda would like to set myself some sort of challange.. a combination of photography and (paper/hand) crafts. One that gives me just enough room to slack but still keeps me on my toes and makes me MAKE or DO something creative regularly. But which one to choose.. or shall I create my own challenge from a combination of all these? /ponders Maybe.. I could set my own rules for the 100 themes art challenge and commit myself to to create "something" along these 100 themes.

Or maybe 101 things to do in 1001 days?? Now that sounds like a /real/ challenge, poehee. Knowing me just making the list will already take me 101 days ;)

Just finished watching the last episode of True Bloods first season. Some quick notes: While I enjoyed watching the show I definately like the books better. Apart from the main setting and characters (and some of the stuff happening) I think there is not much similarity between the two of them. It's been altered A LOT and after having read the bookseries several times prior to seeing the show I really had to get used to the cast and all. But, overall, it was interesting and fun enough to keep me entertained through these 12 episodes - I just had to step away from my own images&the story of the books and enjoy the show as a seperate thing. This June season two will air, so I guess by then I'll be on the outlook for the new episodes.

In the meanwhile, it is almost time for the newest Sookie Stackhouse novel Dead and Gone. Though honestly I must admit that the first X books were more fun and "new" and interesting to me to read than the last 2 orso additions to the serie (there is 7 books total now I think). Still, obviously I am curious to see how Sookie her story continues... :) The hard cover will come out in May I think, though for the soft cover I’ll have to wait till next November or even next May 2010. I DO hope they will bring it out with the same type of cover as the previous ones, and keep their stupid HBO advertisement and all to a minimum. So far the cover of Dead and Gone shown on Charlaine Harris' website looks promising enough (though the one on amazon.co.uk kinda makes me wonder again - page also shows the covers of republished editions which have been changed to be linked to the HBO tv show).

I have been too impatient to wait for the soft cover version of the last book of Sookie Stackhouse, as well as the 3rd book of the Inheritance Series by Paolini.. but as money is a bit tight I think I’ll check the library first before resorting to buying an expensive hard cover this time as well.

Oh and btw, the True Blood soundtrack is worth listening to as well. I think it is anyway ;-)

I'm kinda wanting to open a community for us dutchies (here) on dreamwidth. Already got a very cute icon for it thanks to [personal profile] helens78 too! But, being the undecisive (spelling?) indecisive person as I am I don't know what account name to choose! Nederland - as that is the name of our country after all, NL cause tis so nice and short.. or..? Help?

Testing Dreamwidths most recent awesome feature: being able to automatically crosspost to multiple journals (in my case livejournal, but it should also work for other lj-code based sites)!!

If you're seeing this on LJ, you should be able to follow a link to the dreamwidth entry, and login with your LJ OpenID (it is usually username.livejournal.com)to leave a comment. How to use your OpenID here Dreamwidth. And a quick overview of all you can do with your OpenID-dreamwidth account.

Interesting sidenote: apperently, if you sign up for an OpenID account and validate your email address, on April 30th all OpenID users will receive an invite code. I however do not know whether this is correct; read this on an off-dreamwidt website, not on here. But if it is, this is a great way for those of you who are wanting to create a dreamwidth as well, but haven't been able to scoot a invite code yet.

Edited:
1) Testing whether changes are being saved on both journals as well.
2) Woot it does indeed, awesome! My new entry crossposted to LJ pretty immediately, but it does take a bit before edits are visible/followed through on LJ. Just a note, not a problem :)
3) awww I don't seem to be getting a link on the livejournal entry that points you readers to my dreamwidth entry?
4) I figured out 3) ;-) I need to learn2read! :p

Hmm.. I have started to crosspost some of my writings to both my livejournal and dreamwidth accounts. Now I am suddenly wondering; what will happen to those entries that have been posted in both places when I import my livejournal entries over to my dreamwidth account?

It would be most awesome if the posts would merge, but I doubt this is gonne happen/possible due to.. all kinds of reasons I can think of but can't describe for I lack the knowledge of dev-speak heh. So I reckon that maybe the entries will show up double after being imported?

Neatfreak as I am, just the thought of having double posts already kinda makes me freak out. I guess the only way to keep my entries and comments neatly sorted is by disabling the comment feature on my livejournal and adding a link to the dreamwidth entry for my friends to comment on using their OpenID thingy? All comments will be saved in one place then, and I don't even need to bother importing those entries.

Hmmmm.. /wanders off pondering all the different options and possibilities and what not

Two weeks from now friends of ours are getting married and we've been invited to both the wedding ceremony as well as the reception & party afterwards. :) They seem to have arranged a very lovely entourage for their wedding! As it is all the way down in Bergen op Zoom I really did not feel like having to drive back home after the party (and having to be sober for the whole evening too - as I don't drink&drive) I arranged us a room at a nice Bed&Breakfast at like 5-10 mins walking distance from where we gotte be. (It even has free wifi!! ;-)) The wedding ceremony won't be untill 7pm so I am planning to leave home around 2pm in order to get to BoZ before the heavy traffic hits the highway. We then can take a nice walk or do some shopping (weeh) downtown, go out for an early dinner and then go back to our room to get dressed & ready for the wedding festivities.

Then halfway May we have yet another wedding to attend. I guess I better start "worrying" about what to wear ;-)

After getting chewed out all over the internet, Amazon seems to be getting skeered.. They now say that that whole de-ranking of anything gay is "a glitch with our sales rank feature that is currently being fixed." Ah huh! In Dutch I'd say "Maak dat de kat wijs" and I wish I knew what a good English translation would be. I am not buying it, that's for sure! Hah, nice pun, as I no longer will buy from Amazon.com either.

Two more links on the matter, both from afterellen.com - both for me to keep track of and for your reading pleasures.

Knowing that the link came from Dumpert.nl kinda made me expect something .. tasteless, not something that actually made me teary-eyed. Here's the same video but then from YouTube (not gonne bug you guys with all the stupid comments left on the video at dumpert.nl)

Britain's Got Talent : Susan Boyle

Recap: Susan Boyle went on stage in Glasgow for the show Britain's Got Talent and the Judges seemd to have already made up their minds that she wasn't going to impress them. But once she opened her mouth and began singing they were completely blown away. I love how the girl in the jury actually admits this and says that this was the best wake-up call ever.

Apperently Amazon has changed their policy on Sales Rankings as to, quoting one of their own sales representatives exclude "adult" material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Funnily enough though their idea on "adult" content seems to include mainly/only material that has any LGBT content: from fiction to gay-erotica to historical accounts of gay rights to autobiographies of being trans to LGBT self-help and therapy books(1). This is regardless of whether they contain any explicit sex. Meanwhile, books with explicit heterosexual sex scenes retain their sales rank, as long as they're not overtly marketed as "erotica"(2).

Or as how Heather Corinna describes it: In other words, what it’s looking like is this: It’s NOT “adult” , and not deranked, so long as it’s porn, or salacious, or for entertainment. And possibly also simply not adult if it’s heterosexual or heteronormative (or tagged to the contrary). It IS likely to be considered adult and stripped of its ranking if it’s queer (or written by a GLBT author), not hetero/gendernormative, feminist or about any aspect of sexuality for young people.

This just leaves me totally and utterly baffled and pissed. This new policy is discriminative homophobic censorship!! And as others are so much more eloquent in wording their frustration then I am, I hereby gladly present you with some links for further reading on this matter.

Dreamwidth has rewritten the LJ tags to be site neutral, like so:
LJ TagDreamwidth Tag
<lj user=account> <user name=account site=website.tld>
If you do not include the account attribute, the tag defaults to the DW account. If you do include the account attribute, DW creates a user tag to www.website.tld/users/account. There are legacy reasons to do it that way, instead of account.website.tld. I am poking at the devs to do it the second way anyway, because that would expand the usage to all of the other blogging services that give their members urls in the form account.website.tld
<lj-raw><raw-code>
<lj-cut text="foo"><cut text="foo">
<lj-poll><poll>
<lj-pi><poll-item>
<lj-pq><poll-question>
lj://site://
The LJ tags will continue to work, and are a good idea if you are manually crossposting.

Hah, it feels really dump to start off with a silly "first post" subject line, but I really couldn't come up with something more interesting and well, this after all IS the first official entry here right? Thanks to [personal profile] marcelle42 I too was able to create myself a journal here on dreamwidth before the project opens her doors on April 30th and whoohoo I am sooooo excited!! As I lacked inspiration nor was sure whether I wanted/needed a different identity, I am still just 'ladyvox'. :)

Just had a quick look at the import feature and wow, it looks awesome!! I have yet to decide whether or not I will import all my journalentries from the past 8+ years over here or not.. I am leaning towards doing so but I think I'll wait a little while still till some of the issues that were listed are sorted out. I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to hold the complete import off a little longer, as I know myself and I'll freak out if things go wonky - am way to easily stressed out about silly stuff right now. Plus, my current taglist is a mess and I really would like to clean it up some before importing it over here.

I however did import my profile and it worked like a charm. Usericons are gonne be next. :) Then I am going to see if I can tweak my style some, and change my mood icon set. And.. And.. And.. /bounces

As I wrote on my LJ; I am hoping that eventually my dreamwidth readinglist will have a nice mixture of long-time friends and new acquintances. I am seriously hoping that I will be able to lure some/most of my lj-buddies over here as well, but I doubt I will be able to get every single one to migrate/crosspost. Time will tell. I do know I am also very much looking forward to making new friends too though! So for me, tis a win-win situation regardless! :)

There IS one thing I have to decide for myself.. and that is whether this journal will be completely 'access-locked' as well. Like I said, I would love to meet new people, and this simply works better if they can actually read what you write even if you haven't given them access.. but, there is a reason why I wrote my lj friends-only.. After getting trolled I just kinda no longer felt secure and safe enough, and even though it's been years since I ran into anything nasty/drama like that I don't think I feel comfortable publishing all my writings out in the open. Maybe it is time to play around with half-open access again?

Well, tis all for now!!  From now on I am going to try and crosspost between DW and LJ. I think someone mentioned being able to post to DW using their semagic client.. will definately have to check that out.

Owh!! I can set age restriction per entry?? That's neat. I don't think I will ever feel the need to use it - but just the fact it is possible is just awesome. Ditto with the ability to describe your usericon for those who can not display those or see them. /nodsnods
