Enchanted Highway

Ok, there is this highway that leads out to Regent North Dakota. A resident of Regent, Gary Greff was worried about his town disappearing, so he came up with this idea of making large metal sculptures along the highway that lead to his town which also lead to South Dakota, last week, Juwlz, Jennifer, the kids and I drove 32 miles to see all these works of art. Here is a link to the website if any are interested.

First was the Geese in flight

Second called deer crossing

You might have to click on the picture the make it bigger to see my kids, they are standing at the foot of each leg and I did not doctor this picture, that is how big the deer is and all that metal is scrap.
The grasshoppers delight was next, this site was fun to go to cause it was a playground for the kids, there was big grasshoppers and little ones where the kids could sit in and rock back and forth, this Gary guy is so creative.

After the Grasshoppers was the Fisherman's Dream. This site again was a playground for the kids, of course you could climb on it, but there was also a boat you could climb up in and you can slide down the middle of the boat to the ground.

We then moved on to the Pheasants on the prairie, it is amazing the metals that is used these birds body was covered in a mesh and painted, it is a sight to see how something like these can be brought to reality, they are so big.

These works of art just keep coming, we then headed off to go see Theodore Roosevelt Rides Again. There is a cute horse carriage the kids can get into and get on top and pretend to drive it.

Last but no least we ended up with the tin family, It is pretty cool to see these structures and can't wait to see what Gary comes up with in the future.

One of the many adventures in North Dakota

So I am moving slow on my posts of all that we are doing up here in North Dakota. Lance and the other boys got home early one day and us girls (Jennifer, Juwlz, And I), convinced them to go to Medora. We heard there was a play going on and thought that would be a fun outing. We get there and found out the play wasn't free so we just walked around the town, Medora is a tourist town so there was plenty to look at.
Image
Here are the kids posing for one of the many pictures we took. We get out of the cars and the first thing the kids saw and wanted to do was ride the mechanical bull and horse, I bet we were there for 30 minutes.

We stopped in a restaurant for dinner, and waited and waited for our dinner, they weren't equipped for 16 people all at once.

After a long and good dinner, we made it to the ice cream shop 1 minute before it closed! I guess 8pm is shut down time in Medora.
Image
Afterwards we took at stroll through some shops and down the street and had to stop to take a few pictures.

We ended up at a park that was a lot of fun even for adults!

So far so good, North Dakota hasn't been too bad!

Bismarck Dakota Zoo

Image
We drove to Bismarck (1 1/2 hrs) away to go to the Zoo with friends and family. It was a small zoo and parts of the zoo was still flooded from the Missouri river. I think the animals we starved for attention because most of the animals were so attentive, we went to see the bears and they were right there trying to entertain us, the tiger was behind a glass window but he was right up to it letting us take pictures with him there, and the monkeys were showing off, those were just a few of what we saw.

4th of July

4th of July has turned out to be a big deal with our family, because my husband always seems to be gone during that holiday so the wife and children pack up and go spend the 4th with him, we have been to Mesquite (of course cause that's where we live), St. George, Brian Head Utah, Provo Utah, Afton Wyoming, and now Dickinson North Dakota. We got here the night before, and got to listen to fireworks being shot of all around us (they don't have a no fireworks law even the ones that can go up in the air). Morning of the 4th we layed around camp, yes I said camp my husband has been living in our camp trailer for the last month, and that is where we get to live for the next month. Dickinson had their parade on Saturday so we drove 30 minutes away to Killdeer for a parade what a lot of fun! We couldn't pick up the candy fast enough and there were 8 kids trying, it put the Mesquite parades to shame.

Not only did we get to spend the 4th with Lance as a family, but Payton and his family were here, (we carpooled together), and Kelby and Alyson. The pictures above are us waiting for the parade to start.
Image
Here they are just chillin, the weather was perfect, there was not one complaint that they were hot behind us was a small forest so they played back there until the parade started.
After the parade we headed home and waited till dinner time, we were going to go to a city bbq, but the food was bad and the price was high, so we found a restaurant instead. After dinner we came back and started shooting off fireworks, the kids had a blast watching them go off, some of the fireworks we had to wonder which way they were heading, we must of had an off batch, pretty funny to watch even the dads run away.
Image
Image
Lance was the designated lighter, notice Lance and blue flinching away from the fireworks they were chickens!
Image
Image
The kids wouldn't slow down, they wanted more and more fireworks, Lance got victor to hold the one of the rockets and it shot off in his hands.
Finally the fireworks ended, and now we moved onto the sparklers
Image
Image
Image
Sparklers are so much fun it was really watching the excitement and showing them fun ways to use the sparklers like spelling out their names. Then we ended the night by watching the fireworks show at our camp site!
