The other night for family night we went to Pete's school to watch the students perform "Seussical".  It was very fun and colorful.  The kids really enjoyed it.
Then afterwards for F.H.E. treats we ended up at the new Sammy's in P.G.  We had never been before and we had been wanting to go and try their Famous Pie Shakes.  We got the mint oreo pie shake and it was pretty good, the kids had butterfinger or something.  We also found out as we were leaving that Monday nights they have grilled cheese sandwiches for only a $1.  We just thought that everyone really liked their grilled cheese because that was all anyone around us was ordering.  We some how missed the big sign in front that said "Monday Night $1 Grilled Cheese"  From the streets it looks teeny tiny so we almost didn't go in but we were pleased to find out that they have a really nice big room in the back.  The kids had fun testing out the old school desks and looking at all the old record covers on the walls.  And then we took silly pictures of each other until our shakes arrived.  It was a good evening.

So these were taken last summer soon after our 10 year anniversary.  I know they are way late and out of order but I want them on here for when I print my blog book.

Hannah went on her first field trip the other day to the farms at Thanksgiving Point.  She was just a little excited!  Especially for her first bus ride.  I was glad I volunteered early and was able to go with her.  We had so much fun looking at all the new baby animals.

It's DONE........It's finally done.

Image

We finally finished our chicken coop.  I love how it turned out.  Pete did an amazing job and I couldn't be  more thrilled!  It's nice to see them doing what they are natural made to do instead of being stuck in a box in the garage.  They mostly have all their feathers now and our able to be out on their own.  They are loving eating the weeds and grass and spreading their wings.  I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying these little chickens.  Nightly we like to all go out and just watch them.  The kids really do enjoy taking care of them.  Especially Hannah she spends a lot of time out there holding them and making sure they are doing okay.  It's pretty hilarious.

Structurally the coop is done but there are still some things I would like to add.  You know the girly touches that Pete wants nothing to do with. I would love to get some old shutters for the window.  And how cute would a rooster weather vain be on the roof??  I know!  I also want to plant some vines to grow up the fencing and chicken wire to give them extra shade, foliage, and protection.  All in due time for now we are just enjoying having them safe in their coop and we can't wait to get our first eggs late this summer or early fall!

Sunny, Gracie, and Charlie will be 7 weeks on Saturday April 28th 2012.  I got so excited the other day when I picked up Charlie and realized she had the prettiest auburn colored feathers growing in on the top of her wings.  At first I got nervous when I thought it was blood but then quickly realized it was just new feathers!!  I had fully expected her to be all white I guess not.

Spring Break

Image
Spring Break this year for us wasn't really a "Break" per say. When it wasn't raining we were working hard to try and get our back fence installed and our chicken coop finished. We had a lot of help from family and it helped immensely, Thanks you guys!! What would we do without you. We spent a lot of time with family and the kids had a blast being silly with their cousins on a few play days during the break.

Image
Notice the pretty white fence behind the coop. When we moved into our house there were just posts in the back for some reason the owners before us never finished the fence. So because of that people had started referring to our house as the house with the "posts". Well not anymore it's finished!

Image
Notice the awesome ramp/ladder inside leading up to the nesting box? That's right I built it all by myself! Used the saw and all with no help from the hubby. It's probably the sturdiest thing in the coop;)

So my husband Mr. Green has a new toy. He bought us a composter. For those of you who don't know Pete very well he is one of the "greenest" people I know. The man HATES no loathes waste. He cannot stand it when people don't recycle and our home is full of everything energy efficient that we can afford and have access to. So in an attempt to cut down on our waste we now have this huge contraption and may be buying another!? That is one of the main reasons I sold Pete on chickens. The lady at IFA said "chickens are like the ultimate little recycle-rs". That was music to his ears.
Image
Our "green" bucket where we put all our scraps to be composted. I need one with a lid this isn't working for me in my kitchen. We only add to the composter on Saturdays because Pete wants his stuff to not be disturbed more than once a week. It has to "cook" his words not mine.

Hoppy Easter

Image
This is the mastermind behind the Easter madness.
This year we really went all out on the Easter egg decorating. My mom did between 5 and 6 dozen eggs. We all had a great time trying to out do one another with our mad egg coloring skills. Some of them turned out very interesting.

Everyone took their egg decorating very seriously!!

Kai spent most of his time in the sand box.

Hannah really enjoyed the rope swing Dave put in the tree.

The kids also had a great time waking up in the morning and finding their baskets and hidden eggs. Some how in all the madness of getting Easter baskets done before church and getting to my parents ward to hear my dad sing for Sacrament Meeting I neglected to get pictures of the kids in their Church Outfits. Dang it! And they both looked so springy. I hate it when I do that.
