Sabah bah!

Our first sabah trip was in 2009 and became one of our annual trip since then. on 20th May 2011, as usual my uncle came to sent us to the airport. This will be our first flight with Firefly. Haikal was puzzled as I told him we've arrived at the airport.

"Kenapa airport lain ni ma?", he asked

I told him today we're going to take different airline, no the usual red colour airplanes.

From the check-in counter to the gate, we passed thru a few travelator. Haikal and Kaseh was so excited of the totally new environment. wait till we get to fly abroad okay kids..u'll get to try the train

Image

Kaseh, still groggy and confused. She's not so used to the idea of traveling early in the morning contrary to Haikal who's up and ready no matter when. But I prefer Kaseh being in that state of confused. She's well behaved that way hehe

As we got in the plane, Haikal was more amazed. Being raised with only the red colour plane experience, he can't stop giving credits of the plane he's on.

"Ma, kenapa tak payah naik tangga?"
"Ma, best la aeroplane ni ada lagu"
"Ma, button tepi yg ada arrow atas bawah ni utk apa?"
"Ma, makanan dia sedap la ma"

Kaseh couldn't be bothered. She's too busy trying to get loose of the seat belt. She hated it hehehe

However the flight was delayed due to congestion of traffic. kapal terbang pon kena redah jem??

But the pilot bawa laju gila...we arrived in Kota Kinabalu right on time.

As we arrived the owner of the car rental have waited for us at the entrance of the airport. After settling the luggage into the car, we drove to town. Since it's too early for check-in we visited the Monsopiad Cultural village.

Image

Then we had our lunch at a local restaurant and head to Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai. The usual accomodation whenever we're in Sabah. However this time we're staying at the Borneo Garden View instead of Ocean View.

After checking-in both kids were told to take a short nap so later in the evening they can go swimming.

Image

Later that night, we had dinner at Gayang Seafood Restaurant. So many too eat, so less space in the stomach.

Image

Next day, Haikal insisted that we send him to the Nexie Kids Club. The 'school' he favors so much. So we left him there, and went swimming with Kaseh. Kaseh as usual, throwing a fit as Haikal's not around but she's okay after a while.

During lunch, we picked up Haikal and had our food at the pool bar.

Image

I told him we're going out to town later. He refused to follow. So we left him at the club and went to Kota Kinabalu. Shopping for the usual things, anchovies, dried salted fish, local delicacies; Kuih Cincin and kuih Lidah and some local made brooches.

Then we went back to pick up Haikal and went for dinner.

On the third day, we drove to Kinabalu Park. But to our disappointment, it was raining when we arrived. We can't see a thing. Kesian kami tak dpt tgk puncak Gunung Kinabalu.

Went back to the hotel feeling devastated. We've wasted 3/4 day and get to see nothing. :(

The fourth day will be our last day here. our flight is in the evening so we spent time at the pool and beach. After checking out we went straight to the airport. Upon arrival at the airport we could see the mighty Gunung Kinabalu, very clear view. :)

Back to Padang

Bangun pagi, breakfast sama2 dgn Ull & family...kami decide utk checkout terus...malas la nak patah balik ke hotel. So kami ke Pasar Aur kuning...tapi tak bley la...mmg pasar sesak dan sempit...dengan budak kecik dua org ni mmg tak boleh...lepas beli kain batik sarung barang beberapa helai, kami terus ke Pasar Atas. Supir dropkan kami kt Jam Gadang...jumpa lagi Ull n family...hehehe

Sebelum kami masuk pasar Atas kami naik kereta kuda jalan2 pusing kuta Bukittinggi.

Image

Masuk Pasar Atas dapat la beli a few things sebelum Haikal start complaining dia dah bosan! dasar orang lelaki! :P
Kaseh pulak dah start lari2 celah kain2...maka kami keluar dari situ untuk lunch...
Lunch kami di Pizza Hut...sbb haikal insist nak makan kt situ...katanya, 'bole tak kita makan pizza hut indon hari2?' oh, anakku.... -_-

Lepas lunch kami bergerak ke Padang....setiba di Padang kami singgah Grand Basko Mall...nak potong rambut!hehe

Selesai potong rambut kami check in hotel....rehat2 sekejap, solat semua, lepas tu keluar dinner dgn Kak Nini+family and Bang Rara...tapi tak dpt jumpa family Bang Rara sbb rumah derang agak jauh n kebetulan Bang Rara nak ke KL hari isnin.

Image

Lepas dinner, packed up suitcase...pagi2 nak berangkat pulang ke KL.
Recovery Trip

Setiba di airport, check-in bagasi, kami bersarapan terlebih dahulu...lepas tu kami check-in...tapi suami saya tak check-in sama sebab hala tujuan kami berlainan...saya ke kepulauan Sumatera, suami saya ke kepulauan Jawa.

Bila nak boarding kapal berbang, Kaseh mula gelisah...mana papa?berulang-kali tanya soalan yang sama.

Image

Supir bawak slow sgt...alasan dia Kak Nini pesan bawak slow2 biar kitorang menikmati pemandangan...layan je la hehe
First stop Air terjun Lembah Anai..lepas tu nampak la dua guning berapi yang mengapit jalan...singgah Tasik maninjau....lepas tu baru smpai Bukittinggi...

Image

Sampai Bukittinggi kami terus check-in Hotel Campago. Ull and family dah sampai sehari awal...tapi sbb kami kepenatan maka kami berehat dulu...lgpon bagi can supir pegi rehat2 n makan.

Sekitar jam 4 sore, supir datang jemput kami. first stop pegi Hotel Ambunsuri. Minta direction ke kedai sulam Ambunsuri, mother-in-law n family mmg regular customer kt sini sejak dari zaman dahulu kala lagi...

Lepas tu kami dinner nasi padang...then melawat jam gadang...

Image

Lepas jalan-jalan, shopping jajan, pulang ke hotel jumpa jugak kami dgn Ull and family...Haikal dgn Iyaadh berkejar2 kejap...lepas dah penat berlari dari bilik Ull ke bilik kitorg maka seme pon setel down :)

Korea - Day 7

It's our last day in Korea. Today we're suppose to visit the DMZ (De-militarized Zone) of the North and South Korea. However we only went to the Odusan Unification Observatory due to unstable situation happened between the two nations. Here we get to see North Korea from the observation deck. However the view wasn't so clear due to thick fog.

Image

After lunch we head back to Seoul. Had a stop at Seodaemon for last round of shopping. Ewha Women's University is located in this area. So I finally had the chance to take photo at the magnificent university architecture.

Image

Image

After finished shopping we head to the Incheon International Airport, heading back to KL...
InsyaAllah ada rezeki kita jejak kaki lagi sekali di bumi Korea...
Korea - Day 6

Today we had change of plans...Arief stays at the hotel to take care of Haikal. We'll meet up during lunch. So halfheartedly, I left Haikal under the care of his daddy...we went for a short Seoul city tour...We visited the Blue House (similar to the White House), the Gyeongbok Palace and some cosmetics and jewellery shops (so not my taste)....patut la arief willingly to stay behind and continue sleeping :P

We meet up for lunch at a Moroccan restaurant. Nasi dia sedap gilerrr. So Haikal and his daddy actually went to the Ewha Womens University before meeting us at the restaurant...pegi cuci mata dulu rupanya!Patut la sihat walafiat je rupa dia

After lunch we went shopping at the Insadong area. Likewise, when the rest went shopping we went to the Cheonggyecheon river. I tell you...crazy lah!!A clear water stream in the middle of the bustling city of Seoul!!!Outrageous!!! mmg tabik la kat orang korea for all the technologies they have and yet able to preserve the beauty of nature

Image

Image

Later after dinner, we went shopping in another area called Mysadong. Then we head back for the hotel.
Korea - Day 5

Today we're going to the Everland Theme Park! This is one of the biggest theme park in Korea owned by Samsung Corporation. The theme park is quite far which is why we had to stay in Suwon instead of Seoul. On the way to Everland, we saw a lot of snow on the roadside. Haikal even begged us to stopped so he can play with the snow. However, org kata mmg dah rezeki... there were snow at Everland! We played snow fight, even the tour guide joined in!hahahaha

Image

Observe the photo, you'll see the tour guide gathering snow to throw at us hehehe

The theme park, of course are the same as any other theme park...there's the roller coaster, the ferris wheel and a lot of other rides. And there were lots of flowers especially tulips! Lots and lots of tulip!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Unfortunately it was weekend so the place was crowded and you'll have to wait in a super long queue to play games and rides. So if there's next time, it'll be a weekday visit. :)

After Everland, we head back to Seoul. We visited the Ice Gallery and everyone get the chance to show off their talent carving the ice. However coz Haikal is down with fever and Kaseh is super tired, so I didn't get the chance to join the carving session. But we got to munch the rice cracker courtesy of the Ice Gallery hehe

Oh, before dinner we had a short stroll in the Iteawon area. When everyone else went shopping, we took the underground subway going nowhere. The tube was 4 level down! It was so so deep the tube runs underneath the Han river!

After the ride we had Iranian kebab for snacks right before dinner. The cold weather makes us hungry all the time!

For dinner we had bulgogi at a local halal restaurant. I was imagining a restaurant, Seoul Bulgogi in Malaysia. However the bulgogi look different!

Image

After dinner we went straight to the hotel...and Haikal is already restless and his temperature shoots up...
Korea - Day 4

Today we're going back to Seoul, so early in the morning we left the hotel for Jeju International Airport. Upon arrival at Dimpo Airport, we board our bus and head to Nami Island. You guys familiar with Nami Island? The beautiful island is a famous shooting location for 'Winter Sonata'. Nami Island is also famous among country leaders including Malaysia because most conference were done in that island. So we saw a lot of Malaysian flag on the roadside heading to Nami Island.

Image

Image

Image

Image

oh and guess what??

WE FOUND SNOW!!
The lake was practically frozen and covered with SNOW!! Yes, SNOW! (jakun kejap)

Image

After spending a few hours in Nami Island, we went back to mainland and head for Suwon, where the Everland Theme Park is located. However the traffic was bad we had to change plans. Instead of going to Everland Theme Park we visited the Cultural Heritage Suwon. It was already dark and the temperature dropped to about 1°C and it was very windy. After the short stop we went for dinner at a Muslim Pakistan Restaurant. And the most awaited moment, reaching the hotel!Tak sabar nak tido!!

Korea - Day 3

The next morning we had abalone porridge for breakfast. Oh so sedap, I finished the whole bowl. Then we visited the Dragon Head Rock on foot, which was just across the street. The wind was super strong, it nearly blew Haikal away!hahahahaha

Image

Then we left the Dragon Head Rock and head for The Sunrise Peak, one of the UNESCO Heritage Site. On the way, we stopped by a local orange orchard. The trees we full of fruits. We were excited thinking we could experience picking the fruits. Once we got down the tour bus, the owner of the orchard said those were fake fruits. Oh, we were fooled by the oranges! But I managed to find a few oranges still hanging on the trees. So Kaseh and haikal got the chance to pluck the oranges :)

Image

Before we reached the Sunrise Peak we had another stop at a shooting location in Jeju-Do, the Seopjikoji or the Koji Hill. The church on top of the hill was a shooting location for a Korean Drama, All In.

Image

Soon after that, we reached the entrance of the Sunrise Peak.

Image

But before that we need to refuel ourself. The cold weather makes us hungry all the time! we had grilled mackerel for lunch. The fish was so fresh it taste so so good!

Image

After lunch and solat, some of us gave up even before trying to conquer the Sunrise Peak. Halfway thru, I gave up...Kaseh refused to walk. So I took her to see the female divers. Haikal, continued the journey to the top with his daddy, and the rest. Next day, he got muscle ache and fever for being so determined.hahahaha!!!

Unfortunately the female divers weren't there so we played with the sea water. the lagoon was all I have always imagined when I was a kid...seaweeds and water puddle on the rocks, small fishes swimming in the puddle and seashells of all shapes.

Then we continued our journey visiting the Seoungeuo Folk Village, a local setting of a traditional Korean village. After that we stopped by a tea plantation, took a few photos and went straight back to the hotel. The rest continues shopping at the underground mall. I went straight to the room coz Haikal and Kaseh were too tired and cranky.
Korea - Still Day 2

In Jeju-Do, we visited the Bear Museum. Kaseh volunteered to remain quiet in the stroller. Why? Coz she's scared of soft toys! Contrary to Kaseh, Haikal loved the museum. He explored the whole museum and took photos with ALL the teddy bears!

Image

Image

After that we went to the "Mysterious Road'. What's so mysterious about this lane?

The island is also known as the island of god. The uphill route has magical power. Vehicles moves upwards without having to turn the engine.

Nahhhhhh...I'm making up stories...actually the road plays a trick on your eyes. Due to the lack of a true horizon, subconsciously our judgement of a slope is misled by the false horizon in that area. The road is actually going downwards.

After amazed by the 'Mysterious Road', we went for our dinner at a local restaurant. We had seafood steamboat. The table behind us had live octopus tentacles! We were stunted by his bravery to actually chew and swallow the eeky-moving octopus tentacles!

Then we check-in to hotel, put our stuff and went for a stroll at a local underground shopping mall just across the street. No wonder we couldn't see crowds anywhere on the roads...They we underneath us, happily shopping.

Korea - Day 2

Since it's already daylight, I finally get to see Korea clearly. It was a very beautiful country. It's not squeaky clean but you can't see rubbish lying around anywhere, unlike Malaysia...

The tour guide, Jinnie Kim says it's rush hour in Seoul so we need to leave early as we're are catching a plane to Jeju-do. When we were getting near to Seoul, I asked her where's the traffic?, she says 'This is the rush hour'. We laughed and told her wait till you come to KL and see how bad our rush hour is.

We visited the Namsangol Hanok Village, the traditional Korean village. It's a setting of an ancient Korean town. We get to see 2 men performing martial arts for a photog. we also get to see the ancient kimchi 'refrigerator'

Image

After that we went to Itaewon for lunch at a local halal arab restaurant. Very near to the National mosque in Seoul. There were many halal restaurant along the roadside heading to the mosque.

Later, after lunch we made a quick stop at the War memorial museum. the first thing we saw was the huge Taegukgi statue. The symbolic icon of the Korean war. The movie Taegukgi was inspired from the statue.

Image

Then we make our way to the Gimpo International Airport heading to Jeju-do. We'll be staying there for 2 nights. At the airport, a bit chaos happened. The flight was delayed because of us. The personnel at the check-in counter had trouble entering our name into the system. Maybe because most Korean name are very short. The tour guide spent almost 45 mins correcting all our names. After check-in we rushed to the plane, smiling sheepishly because the flight was delayed due to misunderstanding.
The Visit to South Korea

The Pre-Korea trip was really exhausting. Packing stuff into the luggage simply a nerve-wrenching process. Haikal's winter coat were bought a day before the trip. More instant noodles and porridges as well as biscuits and other tidbits filled up the suitcase, all because of the uncertainty of food consumption in Korea.

On March 23, 2011 all bags packed, Uncle Dino sent us to the airport. This will be my first time flying long-distance on a low cost carrier. I don't want to have any high expectation.

As we arrived at the airport, we got a special check- in counter as the tour leader requested AirAsia to open up a check-in counter for us.

I was praying the flight will be tranquil and comfortable. Alas, cause it was a day flight it was chaos! I can't even close my eyes. This race who usually talked in high tone as if they are so deaf was filling up the plane. I was frustrated. I need rest. It was even more frustrating when we wanted to have our next meal, the flight attendance told us they are out of food, only instant noodle left. Sigh…

After 6 ½ hour of exhausting journey we finally arrived at Incheon International Airport. Tired and hungry, we left as soon as possible hoping we could find food. Unfortunately, restaurant in Korea closed as early as 9pm. No food for us…luckily we have the instant noodles and porridges packed in the suitcase. On the first night, we're staying in a hotel near Incheon cause we need to leave for Jeju-do (Jeju Island) the next day. When we arrived at the hotel, I was petrified with the look of the building. I started to imagine the look inside the room. I prayed hard the room will be clean and most important the toilet. Because before we left for Korea, I Googled the hotel and the room look very nice but as I stand in front of the hotel I was thinking was the picture I saw on the Internet bogus?

But when we entered the room I was amazed. It's way better. Even beyond expectation! Somehow we forgot to capture the toilet of the hotel room. TV was flat screen. Room equipped with all safety equipment such as emergency flashlight, rope to climb out the room, first-aid box and even a cute small fire extinguisher.

Image

After having a quick meal, we went for a stroll around the hotel. It was very quiet, maybe because it's weekday. The wind was very strong because we're very near to the beach. We were freezing! Our hand and mouth got numb. There were a lot of seafood restaurant by the beach and a few people playing fireworks. a small karaoke kotak nearby the hotel...if there's no customer the karaoke kotak will play song non stop with a loudspeaker..hehehe

Then we went back to the hotel to revive our self. Packing up cause we're leaving for Jeju-do tomorrow.

Image

In the morning we get to see view from our hotel room, overlooking the sea :)

bahagia ialah...

i) bila balik melaka;
- mak unggal siapkan daging kerbau salai.
- kutip biji getah byk2 lps tu arwah pak ngah ajar buat helikopter.
- mandi air perigi yang sejuk beku mengadap sawah bendang, di perhati dek kerbau tgh berkubang. byk kali cedok air tapi tak pernah dpt tangkap ikan dalam tu.
- mak unggal ajak lintas bendang pegi tgk rumah baru. dah smpai tgh2 jln baru perasan baju kaler merah. kerbau tgh berkubang kiri dan kanan.
- lalu bawah pokok kundang yang sangat besar, tp tak penah dpt makan buah dia.

ii) bila balik jeram;
- org lain sampai rumah naik salam sedara-mara, aku tawaf satu rumah tgk pokok dan binatang pastu baru naik rumah salam.
- ikut arwah pak ngah amik buah nipah kat hujung tanah.
- pukul 3-4pm pegi pantai jeram tunggu nelayan pulang dari laut. (indication: kucing dah tunggu kt tepi jeti)
- pegi pantai remis tgk kuda2 Dato' Sharani bersiar2 tepi pantai.
- bila malam bentang tilam kt ruang tamu tidur berjemaah.
- petik buah2an, sayur2an, kutip telur ayam, jolok buah kedondong yg pokok dia tinggi melangit.
- lari naik rumah bila angsa tok andak datang secara mengejut.
- main masak2 bawah rumah dengan sedara-mara.
- hari raya dpt makan lauk special; rendang itik, rendang la-la and ketupat pulut (bukan ketupat palas).

iii)kat rumah;
- bila hujan lebat, mak tak marah main air hujan yang mencurah2 turun dari bumbung atas.
- bila hujan lebat, mencangkung kat longkang depan rumah tunggu kalau2 ada binatang hanyut (dpt selamatkan itik seekor; bagi nama Didi)
- bila musim rambutan, panjat pokok rambutan, duduk kt dahan makan rambutan sambil baca buku.
- bila orang semua tidur tgh hari, ambil tangguk ikan, masuk dalam kolam ikan kejar ikan sana sini. mak bgn tidur, kena marah sebab ruang tamu dah becak.
