Weee! Bach. The two part invention below in g minor from Bach's Inventions and Sinfonia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inventions_and_Sinfonias) is really an easy piece. It was intended most likely to be played on the harpsichord. I opted to play it on the organ. Most of the inventions don't translate too well.
Below is an an example of "good" piano playing. It is Greg Anderson playing "the devil's staircase" by Gyorgy Ligeti. I wonder how many years before I will be able to play this piece?
This is our big GeekAustin bash of the year, and because I honestly love you, there is no cover. The event is free.
To help amp up the celebration, we have invited our friends at Refresh Austin and the Austin Electronic Music Grid to co-host. Refresh Austin represents some of the sharpest web and design pros in town, and the Grid represents some of the most interesting electronic music artists in town. I am pretty excited about getting them together in the same room. The Geeks meet the Grid.
Union Park is a big club. We'll have some rooms set up for performance, and some rooms set up for conversation. Union Park also has an excellent menu, so there is no need to head home before the party.
GeekAustin 8th Anniversary Party
Tuesday, September 30, 6PM - 11PM
Union Park, 612 W Sixth St (Next to Katz’s)
Please RSVP at Facebook (this helps us determine how many bartenders have on hand)
Because most of the members/folks who attend the GA events are either on LinkedIn or Facebook, and because I don't have the same love for LiveJournal now that Brad is gone, I haven't been posting the GeekAustin events to LiveJournal for the last 6 months or so.
So that you can keep up with everything that we're doing:
This is your opportunity to meet dozens of Austin's fringe hackers and digital mad scientists. dorkbot-austin has been featured on wired.com, San Francisco Chronicle, boingboing.net, Makezine.com, BBC-Radio, and G4TV among many others.
For January, the GeekAustin Happy Hour moves downtown to the exceptional J Blacks. Some of you may remember that PhizzPop was hosted here last month. Well, Whurley and I liked JBlacks so much that we decided to host the next few GA happy hours there.
This month Refresh Austin will be joining us as co-hosts. Although it is entirely not necessary, please rsvp so that we can know how many additional staff to bring in for the eventing:
The PhizzPop Design Challenge is the Battle Royale of Design. Austin's top interactive, Web, and design agencies are pitted against one another to push the limits of technology and creativity. Austin has some of the best interactive designers in the biz. If you are a designer wanted to check out the competition -- or if you are looking for a new design gig -- this is the place to be. Don't believe me? Get the scoop from Shellie.
Regional competitions have already taken place in New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Austin's winners will compete with them at (where else but) South by Southwest Interactive.
Although it's a not too late to register online, I just got confirmation from Chris Bernard at MS that there will still be room to come check out the action.
Hope to see you there - LinearB
For this month’s Geek Austin Happy Hour,
LinearB and whurley are teaming up with
Connie Reece and Mike Chapman from

Triumph is a great place for a party.
With any luck, the rain gods will take the night off:

I received a note from Tim at Pandora. You may have received the same note. Most likely we will have to call our congress critters every few months about this to remind them who they serve. Small price to pay for somafm, pandora, and all the other great providers of new and indie music.
Disaster looms! Yesterday a federal court denied a plea to delay the massive increase in rates webcasters must pay the record labels. This means that, absent immediate Congressional action, the new ruinous royalty rates will be going into effect on Monday threatening the future of all internet radio. This is a very dire situation and I'm writing to ask one more time for your support. The effort you've made over the past four months has been extraordinary and has forced the rapid introduction of the bill, but the committee process has been sluggish and we need to once again remind the representatives of the urgency of this issue. This is perhaps the most important phone call you can make for us.
Please call your Congressional representatives in the House and Senate and ask them to force immediate action on the Internet Radio Equality Act and bring the bill to a vote. It is critical that their phones begin ringing off the hook starting early in the morning. If it's busy, please try again later.
Congressperson Lloyd Doggett: (202)225-4865
Senator John Cornyn: (202) 224-2934 Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison: (202) 224-5922
I'm sorry that we have to keep asking you for this - but it's our only recourse. We are no match for the legal and legislative strength of the RIAA and we need your help. Thank you again.
