Tutor Frances Hatch shares the strategies she employs to engage with a place through its materials and involving all of our senses. 'I could not be a poet without the natural world. Someone else could. But not me. Under the trees, along the pale slopes of sand, I walk in an ascendant relationship to rapture, and with words I celebrate this rapture. I see, and I dote upon, the manifest.' from Winter Hours by Mary Oliver Frances maintains a spacious, reflective practice...through which she welcomes reciprocity with land as community. Her work is site-responsive, integrating site materials with water-based media through which personality of place participates. Each site suggests and indeed offers its own palette and demands something particular of her. She integrates colour (gouache, acrylic or watercolour) with what is available in the landscape. She lingers, gathers and concocts. Weather, water and happenstance animate, reveal and conceal, pre-vent and pro-vide. Site materials enter and inhabit the work both by chance and by design. films by @richardgregoryartist
