Support the creation of a Deputized Senior Engineer Position!
Over the past three fiscal years, Mid-City CAN’s Youth Council and residents of City Heights have successfully advocated for $4.25 million in funding dedicated to the revitalization of Officer Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park. While we sincerely appreciate this support, our project to replace two playgrounds is estimated to take about 5 years to complete and will cost double the amount in soft costs than if Parks and Rec could deliver in-house. This is why we identified a need to change the process. Our goal is to see more parks built and made accessible to all residents across San Diego. To achieve this, we respectfully request that the City of San Diego establish a Deputized Senior Engineer position within the Parks and Recreation Department. This would enable the city to expedite the construction of new parks and smaller CIP projects while reducing costs, ensuring that more communities can enjoy the benefits of quality green spaces more efficiently.
