The Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Section (DDRS) of the United Nations 
Department of Peace Operations (DPO) with support of Switzerland, is organizing the DDR basic 
training course that will take place in Stans, Switzerland, from 10 to 14 November 2025.
The objective of the course is for participants to acquire conceptional, contextual and operational 
knowledge about DDR.

The objective is to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and support necessary to design, 
plan and implement innovative, effective and tailored WAM activities as part of DDR processes, in 
alignment with the latest international arms control standards and guidelines, namely the Modular 
Small-arms-control Implementation Compendium (MOSAIC) and the International Ammunition 
Technical Guidelines (IATG). The training will also enable DDR practitioners and WAM experts to 
connect, network and share experiences, advice and guidance related to WAM in DDR contexts.

The Integrated DDR Standards

DDR is the process of removing weapons from the hands of members
of armed groups, taking these combatants out of their groups and
helping them to reintegrate as civilians into society. In complex envi-
ronments, this is often supported by CVR - an approach to DDR that
plays a key role in reducing tensions at the grassroots level while in-
creasing opportunities for social cohesion, economic development and
conflict resolution. DDR and CVR are components of a larger process
to manage armed groups and ultimately lead to their peaceful and
orderly dissolution.
