The Cry Wolf Project
Why do wolves howl? That’s one of the central questions behind a long-term research effort in the Greater Yellowstone region known as the Cry Wolf Bioacoustics Project. Bioacoustics—the study of sounds made by living organisms—is unlocking new ways to understand and protect wildlife. Join us in the effort to protect wild places for future generations, and learn about the communication of wolves.

Why do wolves howl? Why does your dog bark? Why does any animal communicate, for that matter? Those are questions behind a long-term research effort in Yellowstone known as The Cry Wolf Bioacoustics Project. We collect over 200,000 hours of landscape scale audio annually used to research the behavior and communication of wolves, elk, bison, mountain lion, and more. Along the way we innovated a new class of trail camera called GrizCam (grizcam.com) that can see, hear, smell and more...because wild animals are tough to study.
