Common Practices?
From my understanding it is poor practice to use a Linux router as a server (even if for home purposes only). I'd like to have the control of something like m0n0wall on my Linux box, problem is I only have my workstation and 1 server. I already have a D-link WiFi router/switch which does a good job things, but again, the m0n0wall or other Linux solution is really a more dynamic solution. What is everyone running out there as far as network layout. Here's my current layout:
[inet]<->[cable modem]<->[dlinkwifi router]<->Server
<->Workstation
I'd prefer to put the wifi on a seperate private net from the wired network with extra protection, the Dlink doesn't allow for this, however if I were to add a Linux router, then plug the wireless router into it, that may be an option. What's your thoughts? I'm going for security, speed, reliability. In that order..
Thanks!
