systems backup

AIX has a program called mksysb(MAN PAGE). mksysb creates an installable image of the root volume group either in a file or onto a bootable tape. Kinda like ghost but for unix. Does anyone know of a linux equivalent? I would like to have the image file on a remote server and use like bootstrap to install new boxes across the network. Any ideas?
