keyboard weirdness, help!

background - Debian Sarge, 2.4.27-1-386 kernel. dual booting, using lilo.

So, I boot the computer up this morning. Press enter to select linux from the lilo menu, fine. Linux boots, and I get to the kdm login screen. Nothing wrong there.
However, I notice that as I'm typing my password, nothing is happening on screen. The numlock light isn't on, and no amount of pressing the key will make the light go on. In fact, no amount of keyboard mashing makes anything happen.

I select 'console login' from the menu, and the keyboard magically starts working again. I can login, run startx and kde starts with a working keyboard. hooray.

Anyone have any ideas why my keyboard has suddenly started playing up? It was fine last night, and has been fine ever since I installed sarge about a month ago. I haven't changed any of the X config files recently, and I can't think of anything else I've done that might affect it.

I've rebooted several times, turned the computer off and on again, and I'm still having this problem
