Hi there, just introducing myself. A hardcore computer geek since I was 10 or so, so I've got about ten years of experience with just about everything I've been able to get my hands on. It's a shame I couldn't have started off on Linux instead of spending so much time with Windoze. Anyway, I've used Linux off-and-on since it first became available and only recently made the complete conversion to using nothing but Linux (running a Mepis on a box I built from spare parts [Duron 900, EPoX motherboard, Voodoo3 card]) and I'm loving it. :)
The main reason I'm posting is because other than what I've already listed, I also only have 128 megs of ram (8 of which is being shared by the motherboard for onboard video, can't seem to be able to disable the sharing entirely since I don't require it to share). KDE on top of Mepis runs very nicely and is definitely not as bad a memory hog as other platforms we all could mention. However, until I can even afford to buy any new 'puter parts like ram, I'd like to get some opinions as to what distro, window manager, and kernel would run best on this particular set of hardware.
p.s. if it matters, I'm using a MAG Innovision 1495 monitor and generic keyboard/mouse.
Thanks in advance
