Does anyone know if it's possible to adjust the volume level at the computer when playing a movie with AC3 passthrough? My stereo receiver's remote is gone, and it's just not possible to watch a DVD without a volume control close to hand.
Specifically, I'm using Totem with the Xine backend, but if only Xine itself can do this, that would work. I have a first-gen SB Live, with alsa drivers, on Ubuntu Hoary (so I have the new mixer UI, but any hint to which knob to frob to adjust the volume of an AC3 stream is welcome). The SPDIF (SDPIF?) of the little daughtercard is plugged into my reciever's "DVD" input.
I suspect the answer is "no", so if you know that this isn't possible, I'd like to hear that too.
