computer building

I suspect that most hardware just works under most linux distros anymore, but just to check . . .

I am going to be buying some piecemail computer parts over the next few m onths and putting together a machine for home use. the idea is to set up a dual boot system (using windows like a game console, as I usually recommend and doing all my computing on linux). Are there any pieces and parts that come strongly recommended? Are there any that won't work with linux or are not linux-friendly? Specifically I'm looking for advice on motherboards, processors, etc. Most everyhting else is self explanitory, but those two elements confuse my little brain more than most, so a second oppinion is worth getting.
