Linux on a Windows 3.1 machine
I recently dug up (actually it had been sitting in the towel closet neglected for about 10 years) my first computer, which runs windows 3.1. I was wondering if it's possible to run linux off it, anyone know if it can be done?
The major hurdle I'm running into at this point is that it will *not* boot from cd (it does have a cd drive though). In setup I can only choose between booting from floppy or the hard drive.
Is there some way to FORCE it to boot from cd? Is my computer just too old and moldy? (I accidentally threw away the 3.1 install disks, and the computer is full of errors, so its pretty much useless at this point).
OR, is there some small distribution of linux available that can boot off a floppy disk?
And another question, which pretty much sums up my level up noobness - why the heck can't I boot from cd?? Does it have something to do with windows 3.1 itself, or is it something else? My motherboard?
I know nothing.
Any help is appreciated (oh, and I did try google for some answers, but that didn't help at all!). Thanks =']
