Resizing hard drive before installing linux

Hey folks. I've decided that my sister's old Win98 computer will never work as a small home server. It does work very well as an old games box. I really want *nix-based OS on there, but I don't want to get rid of my Win98 install.

Ideas of mine:

1) Copy hard drive contents to one of my other systems, format the hard drive, place the copied data in the Fat32 partition and install Linux/FreeBSD/whatever I decide on.

2) Find an awesome piece of partitioning software that'll resize the Fat32 partition and create an extended partition from the remainder of the disk.

Option two is where you folks come in. Does anyone know of some FOSS that can pull that off?
