Hey everybody,
I'm very new to Linux. I just reformatted my harddrive and completely removed Windows from my laptop, forcing myself, in a manner of speaking, to learn to use Linux. Everything is working great (finally) except some very minor problems.
I can't get MP3s to play on my laptop. I've tried installing various packages with Synaptic Package Manager whose descriptions say they have MP3 decoders but it's still not working. I installed XMMS but when I tried to play an MP3 I downloaded the player locked up. Any idea what's going on? Where can I download some audio codecs from and how do I install them?
Sorry for the newbie question, I'll appreciate any help I can get. Thanks a lot.

PS: I'm using Ubuntu 5.04
