Total noob
I run a Thinkpad 770z on WinXP. I have no problems with it other than Firefox won't recognize the third mouse button for easy scrolling like it used to in 98SE.
I have a second TP770z that I want to install and learn Linux onto. I am searching for the best distribution for Thinkpad support and trying to decide what sized HD is best. I'll be pulling the old drive out and saving the win98SE install and all the files as a backup on the tiny 4GB drive.
I am thinking a cheapo 10GB drive would be enough for now and playing around. I have the memory maxed with the 64M+128M+128M setup. Processor is a 336Mhz PII.
I have ZERO experience with linux. I'll be learning on the fly. I'm searching for a local users group to hang out with and learn.
Are there anyone who could give me a few pointers to get me headed in the right direction from the very start? I'm not asking for someone to do this for me. I just don't want to waste time going in circles or going down a dead-end that someone else might be able to solve for me. Most of the info I googled on TP770z and linux leads to good info but the pages all seem to stop being updated in 2000 or thereabouts. I guess I deserve that for using antiquated equipment. The 770z does what I want even under winders but I really think I should get to learning linux one of these days.
