VIM syntax problem

Having a problem with VIM syntax highlighting. On my home machine, vim syntax highlighting works perfectly. However, once I remote into my shell, syntax highlighting is broken. At the VIM command prompt, when I type, ":syntax on", instead of seeing colors, I just see the color's escape sequences. Perhaps this is an error with my termcap file? I thought it was an error with my .vimrc file, however, I'm using the same .vimrc for both machines.I've taken screenshots of this behavior, incase my explination doesn't realize what I'm attempting to communicate verbally.
