Newcomer - USB Linux Boot.

Just thought i'd take a stab at the linux community for a solution to my problem -

I recently installed Slax Killbill edition to a 512Mb Micro Mini Iomega USB key. I used the MySlax creator to copy over the directory structure from the liveCD to the USB key. MySlax creator is designed to make the USB key (formatted in FAT) bootable with the correct BIOS. My question concerns that last bit:

Does anyone know of a simple solution to boot linux from a USB Key without using the BIOS? The most preferable situation would be a boot floppy that either booted right into the copy of Slax on the USB key, or a Boot floppy that starts up a minimalistic version of linux with the correct USB drivers to load up Slax. I've looked around and found a few boot floppies that claim to have this kind of capability - but they all seemed to be tailored to a particular distro. I'd like to use this floppy on other computers that I know do not have USB boot support in the BIOS.

If all else fails, I could resort to a CD. I'd have to get BIOS access to adjust the boot order, but atleast the liveCD would work quickly and i'd have removable storage. If you dont know of any floppy solutions, then what would be the series of bash commands to mount and assume the filesystem of a linux installation on a USB key?

Thanks for your time. I'm still trying to get a grip on this stuff.
