How to recover a sick hard drive?
My FC4 server was taken very sick last week (original tale of woe; basically the BIOS stopped seeing all my hard drives!) but a friend suggested upgrading the BIOS, which I did today and now the BIOS sees my HDDs OK.
The problem is that my FC4 boot drive (including /home) and the other drive I use for backups (including /home) are both broken. I've installed FC5 on a new drive and then attached each of the original drives in turn; I used gparted to see what was on the drive and then mounted each partition and created a tar.gz on the new disk. Unfortunately the the fstype of some critical partitions are shown as "unknown" instead of ext3.
How can I safely force the fstype back to ext3? (gparted will only let me format those partitions, which is obviously no help.)
